Vertex Aerospace LLC
United States, Indiana, Indianapolis
6125 East 21st Street (Show on map)
Jun 27, 2025
Description

Position Summary:

The Capacity Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining capacity models that align demand with available resources across multiple value streams. This role bridges program schedule planning with factory reality, ensuring that labor, machine, and material constraints are proactively identified and resolved before they impact execution. The Capacity Planner partners closely with planners, value stream managers, and manufacturing leadership to turn schedule intent into executable reality.

Key Responsibilities:

Capacity Modeling & Analysis

  • Develop and maintain short- and long-range capacity models based on actual labor, equipment, and material availability.
  • Translate program schedules into resource demand profiles.
  • Identify and flag capacity bottlenecks across labor cells, machines, and work centers.

Scenario Planning

  • Simulate what-if scenarios (e.g., surge in demand, labor shifts, machine downtime) and assess impacts to throughput and schedule adherence.
  • Recommend optimal sequencing, leveling, and load balancing strategies.

Collaboration & Integration

  • Work hand-in-hand with program planners to ensure schedules are grounded in operational capacity.
  • Partner with manufacturing, finance, and value stream teams to align capacity assumptions with actual performance data.

Execution Support

  • Provide weekly visibility into capacity vs. load by area, helping the team navigate execution trade-offs.
  • Support capacity readiness reviews and support IMS alignment.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify systemic disconnects between planning and execution; drive improvements in routing accuracy, labor standards, and MRP inputs.
  • Develop dashboards and visual tools to support data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in production planning, capacity planning, or manufacturing operations.
  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (SAP S4 experience strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to model complex scenarios and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Strong analytical and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Familiarity with AS9100/AS6500 environments preferred.
