Position Overview

The Senior Advocacy and Alliances Program Specialist plays a pivotal role in managing and nurturing relationships with key patient advocacy organizations through innovative collaborations and grants programs that enhance cancer screening efforts. This individual's core responsibilities will include: 1. Managing grant programs and/or other key projects with a focus on efficiency and scalability through out the project life cycle; 2. Managing day-to-day relationships with grantees and/or select key advocacy organizations in the space; 3. Advancing efforts to identify and eliminate barriers to cancer screening, encompassing policy, procedural, or insurance challenges.

By overseeing major programming and advancing strategic partnerships, the Senior Specialist will work to advance organizational goals, foster trust within the advocacy and public health community, and champion solutions. The Senior Specialist will oversee select grant programs, work closely with advocacy partners and grantees, and ensure the fulfillment of objectives and obligations within the defined timelines and parameters. As the primary contact for existing on-the-ground grantees or other key relationships, the Senior Specialist will focus on maintaining and enhancing these relationships, ensuring all projects are in line with the organization's commitment to public health and health equity. Lastly, the Senior Specialist will work to trouble shoot, provide technical assistance, evaluate the efforts, and share success stories.

The Senior Specialist will work closely with multiple functions, including legal, medical affairs, marketing, customer care, corporate affairs, government relations, research and insights, growth initiatives, precision oncology, and Exact Sciences laboratories.

This role works directly with external partners; leverages grant, policy, evaluation and process expertise; and creates meaningful change to improve the cancer screening landscape. Additionally, the Senior Specialist will support key objectives of the Advocacy and Alliance Relations (AAR) team within Medical Affairs, such as playing a lead role in multiple Cologuard Classic workstreams.

This is a hybrid position located in Madison, WI.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee major grant activities ensuring that all deliverables meet the established goals and obligations, in collaboration with team members.
  • Assist in addressing any issues or challenges that may arise in requesting, reviewing, awarding or executing grants and work with appropriate lead to solve issue.
  • Lead efforts to evaluate the grant program, trouble-shoot issues and share success stories.
  • Manage select advocacy programs and other workstreams at Cologuard Classic.
  • Actively support and facilitate collaborations stemming from the Cologuard Classic, fostering a culture of cooperation and innovation.
  • Manage and develop relationships with grantees and/or key advocacy organizations with the end goal of establishing trusting, mutually beneficial collaborations.
  • Serve as one of the faces of Exact Sciences and our mission with external organizations and partners.
  • Lead planning, execution and follow up of leadership-level meetings with grantees and select key patient advocacy organizations with guidance from team members.
  • Leverage interactions to communicate the science behind Cologuard and collect business-relevant insights, in partnership with appropriate internal clinical experts.
  • Proactively represent the needs of grantees and key advocacy partners with internal stakeholders to ensure that trends, risks, and opportunities are identified and prioritized in planning processes.
  • Work cross-functionally to advance internal and external solutions to identified screening barriers.
  • Provide regular updates on grants and collaboration progress and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders in the form of reports and presentations.
  • Engage in continuous data collection and evaluation of grant programs to assess and share project outcomes and insights with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the main point of contact for existing on-the-ground grants, partnerships and collaborations and facilitate clear and consistent communication between all parties to ensure mutual understanding and progress.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of health equity considerations in all relevant projects and decisions within the organization.
  • Navigate Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR) review to update documents and materials.
  • Work in close collaboration with the company's compliance and legal teams to ensure collaborations meet company guardrails, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
  • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in project management, policy expertise, advocacy engagement, or field as outlined in the essential duties.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to patient insurance coverage and/or a working knowledge of evidence-based interventions.
  • Basic computer skills to include internet navigation, email usage, and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Combined 4+ years of experience in a specialist, customer care, or inside sales role at Exact Sciences.
  • Experience with program evaluation and/or report writing.
  • Experience in a project or grant management role where organization and planning skills are essential.
  • Experience identifying key issues and developing collaborative internal and external relationships.
  • Understanding of public health frameworks as they pertain to the development of grant programs for cancer screening.

Salary Range:

$67,000.00 - $109,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to be considered for company stock at hire and on an annual basis.
