Job Summary
The Senior Ultrasound Technician in the Adult Echocardiography Laboratory is responsible for performing the full range of adult echocardiography procedures including, 2-D/3-D echo, stress echocardiography (exercise/pharmacological) and contrast echocardiograms in acute and outpatient care settings utilizing multi-vendor sourced equipment This position requires certification as an RDCS/RCS. The Sr. Ultrasound technician is also responsible for maintaining a high standard of medical ethics at all times, is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve, and follow established examination standards that adhere to the policies and procedures of UCDHS and ICAEL. Clinical instruction of cardiac ultrasound students and/or Cardiac Fellows may also be expected and required per the Echo Lab Supervisor's discretion. - American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification with applicable credential [e.g., Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT, etc.], or equivalent certification
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
- Must have graduated from an accredited Echocardiography program
- Minimum of 2 years experience working in Echo Lab/Medical Center setting
- Ability to performs all requested echo examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
- Have working knowledge of Transesophageal Echocardiogram procedure.
- Effectively operate ultrasound equipment. Have working knowledge of different ultrasound systems. (i.e. Siemens Sequoia, Philips iE33 & CX50, GE Vivid, Sonosite, Cypress)Prepares preliminary worksheet and contacts referring physicians when required, according lo established procedures.
- Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
- Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
- Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the Echo lab.
- Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
- Provides in-service education on echo procedures as requested *by other members of the health care team.
- Participate in establishing policies and procedures; participate in on going continuous quality improvement as part of ICAEL (CQI) requirement.
- Participate and echo research projects.
- Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all patients and staff members.
- Understand and utilize the organizational structure to benefit the Echo service and the hospital.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Work Environment
