The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

Job Description

***This position is located ONSITE at our Orlando, Florida Lab*** Job Profile Summary:

The simulation technician works with the simulation learning lab instructor to facilitate high-fidelity human patient simulated learning for nursing students at all levels of learning.

* Manages simulation lab supplies

* Performs pre-simulation activities

* Assists with simulation scenarios

* Performs post-simulation activities

* Receives minimal direction

* Reports to Clinical Learning Lab Coordinator

* Serves as a professional role model for students in dress, communication, deportment, problem solving, care delivery and patient advocacy to facilitate student's socialization into the profession.

* Demonstrates respect for the student as a new learner by communicating constructive feedback in appropriate ways and in private.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a professional role model for students in dress, communication, deportment, problem solving, care delivery and patient advocacy to facilitate student's socialization into the profession.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and participates in implementation of the philosophy and goals of the nursing program.
  • Gives and accepts feedback on simulation program initiatives to obtain desired outcomes.
  • Supports daily operations of the learning lab.
  • Manages lab supplies inventory using a simulation center management application. Responsible for reporting low par levels to Lab Supervisor for approval to order additional supplies. Follows ordering process of supplies and equipment through WGU approved vendors.
  • Orients students to the simulation lab.
  • Maintains currency in field.
  • Provides orientation to new Simulation Technicians during onboarding to the WGU model and standards for simulation program. Also, cross trains Learning Lab Instructors during onboarding to simulation technology and equipment.
  • Prepare, set up, and maintain simulation equipment, including manikins. This involves programming scenarios and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and updates on lab equipment to ensure optimal function per WGU standard operating procedures.
  • Provides feedback for improving simulation experiences using evidence-based simulation standards and guidelines.
  • Research, create, apply, and remove moulage/special effects appropriate to the simulation scenario to increase realism.
  • Supports and participates in department meetings and Prelicensure Simulation Committee, assisting in establishing goals, strategies, and executing plans.
  • Assist in planning staff schedules.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling Learning Lab space for student lab experiences and other events.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, prepare items for shipment and receives deliveries of supplies and equipment.
  • Changes and launders linen onsite per WGU standard operating procedures and as needed to support lab resource needs.
  • Performs Pre-simulation Activities:
    • Program patient scenarios and setup control room for simulation activity.
    • Prepare scenario props and create scenario moulage.
    • Set up simulation room for simulation scenarios.
    • Assemble pre-simulation learning materials.
    • Set up recording in simulation center management application.
  • Performs Simulation Activities:
    • Pre-brief students, staff, and faculty to simulation environment.
    • Operate simulation console and software.
    • Operate instructional media equipment such as video cameras and audio-visual (AV) distribution.
    • Manipulate simulator during scenario.
    • Record simulation activities in simulation center management application.
    • Assist faculty in monitoring students' safety in learning lab experience.
    • Provide theatrical support (including moulage and voice over) to create realism.
  • Performs Post-simulation Activities:
    • Assist faculty in operating debriefing equipment.
    • Provide feedback for improving simulation experience.
    • Return simulation room to pre-scenario condition.
    • Retrieve non-consumable supplies, repackage, and return to assigned location.
    • Ensure simulation activity recording files are available to faculty for education and training during debrief session.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with computers (PC or MAC experience required)
  • Ability to work with Microsoft office programs- Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work with a simulation center management application
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to work flexible schedule (early mornings, late evenings may be required)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in simulation lab with manikins
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to think logically and follow directions
  • Creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solving problems

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires basic knowledge of standards and processes within a narrow scope of work.
  • A high school diploma or equivalency is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational or technical education in addition to prior work experience is preferred.
  • Health care and computers/technology experience is preferred.
  • Experience in simulation-based education is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
