General Purpose of Job: Performs general ultrasound exams on emergency room patients, inpatients, and outpatients in accordance with physicians' orders. Performs all duties and responsibilities under the supervision of a registered ultrasound technologist. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Prepares patients for ultrasound examinations by explaining procedure to be performed and positioning patients so that targeted parts of the body can be properly scanned.
- Performs general ultrasound exams and on emergency room patients, inpatients, and outpatients in accordance with physicians' orders.
- Scans and sends via PACs ultrasound exam cases to the radiologist in a timely manner.
- Assists radiologist with specialized procedures as directed.
- Prepares and documents all information in Epic for the completion of the exam and billing.
- Performs a variety of clerical tasks including answering phones, assisting patients throughout the department as needed, and inputting patient information into the Epic medical record.
- Assists with maintaining ultrasound equipment and ultrasound room; assists with performing quality control measures to assure all equipment is functioning properly.
- Assists with maintaining an adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies and assist technologist with keeping them stocked.
- Transports patients to/from various departments within the Hospital as needed.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
- Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

* High school diploma and a student in or completion of an accredited Ultrasound Technology program |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of ultrasound exam procedures and techniques * Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the radiology function including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates * Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation * Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other Hospital staff in the exchange of information. The incumbent is also required to communicate technical information in non-technical terms * Analytical ability to assess patients' condition and determine appropriate radiographic techniques to be utilized * Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the emotional needs/concerns of patients who may be combative at times, complete multiple radiographic exams in a timely manner, work on tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail, and appropriately respond to emergency/trauma situations * Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, transfer/lift/ position patients, and properly operate radiology equipment/ devices * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job |
