Responsibilities
Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities. Job Summary The Recreation Therapist position is responsible for planning, developing, providing and evaluating clinical recreation therapy/treatment for residents and/or patients at the Newport News Behavioral Health Center. Specialized recreation therapy techniques are used to meet the physical, social, emotional, cultural and rehabilitative needs of clients/patients. Position functions as a team member in all aspects of clinical decision-making and with the construction of multidisciplinary treatment planning. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Qualifications Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Recreation or a related field or 2 years experience in the recreation or activities department of an inpatient psychiatric or substance abuse facility. Preferred 1 year experience working and/or treating adolescents. He/she must hold a Certification in Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS), be CPR certified, and hold a valid Virginia driver's license.
