Research Scientist to conduct complex scientific investigations in a foundational (basic) research laboratory in the Department of Pathology functioning as an experienced specialist in studying development and function of cortical interneurons.
Supports and conducts complex scientific investigations in the field of neurobiology within a foundational (basic) research laboratory, with specialized expertise in molecular and cellular biology, two-photon live imaging, small animal surgery, histology, transcriptomics, and behavioral testing
Focuses on understanding the development and function of cortical interneurons using a multidisciplinary approach
Collaborates closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to develop, plan, manage, and execute advanced research projects. This includes designing experimental strategies, implementing sophisticated molecular and neurobiological techniques, and performing in-depth data analysis to interpret and predict experimental outcomes
Contributes to the advancement of research through the development and refinement of experimental methods, and plays a key role in the conceptualization and execution of new projects
Serves as a technical consultant to other investigators, particularly in areas involving complex imaging, animal models, and omics-based analyses
Maintains high standards of scientific rigor and innovation throughout all phases of research
Actively contributes to the dissemination of research findings by preparing manuscripts, abstracts, and reports for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Regularly presents research results at national and international conferences and scientific meetings
Plays an active role in the identification and pursuit of external funding opportunities and participates in the development and submission of fellowship and grant applications
May serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) in accordance with The Ohio State Universitys research policies
Provides strategic input on funding sources and develops collaborative relationships with potential research sponsors
Manages daily laboratory operations, including oversight of laboratory equipment maintenance, negotiation of service contracts, and coordination of procurement processes for research supplies
Participates in the development and implementation of laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and animal protocols
Provides guidance, training, and supervision to research personnel at various levels, including undergraduate and graduate students, research technicians, and postdoctoral fellows
Assists with onboarding of new lab members and facilitates the transfer of knowledge through hands-on training and mentorship
Promotes a collaborative and educational environment that supports the professional development of all lab members
