Duties include anthropometric and hematological data collection, diet assessment, nutrition risk assessment, and food package prescription. Counseling and education documentation and data entry, referrals to other health and social services and follow-up education also done. Participates in planning, develop and evaluation of education materials and group education sessions, nutrition in-services, outreach activities and nutrition policy.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates excellent counseling skill; introduces self, limits interruptions, ensures confidentiality, listens attentively, maintains eye contact and shows respect while avoiding imposing value judgments.
2. Uses appropriate techniques when taking ht/wt measurements and finger sticks for iron testing. Interprets results and explains accurately.
3. Provides accurate and culturally appropriate nutrition counseling and materials, reviewing them correctly.
4. Has participant select one objective for behavior change and show's a willingness to accept that goal.
5. Prescribe appropriate food package and explain how to best utilize that package into their daily lives.

Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:
1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

All responsibilities are essential job functions.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Public Health Nutrition, food and nutrition, or nutrition registration with the American Dietetic Association desired.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Demonstrates leadership and decision-making capabilities, has good communication skills and has sensitivity to participant population.

Preferred:
1. One year's experience in clinical or community nutrition preferred.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
