Student Center Operations Coordinator

The Student Center Operations Coordinator assumes responsibility for directing and maintaining the Student Centers facilities. Providing an effective interpretation of the goals and mission of the Student Center and Division of Student Affairs mission and vision to all of the college community acknowledging the important priorities of student success, service excellence and the building of responsible communities. Establish goals, initiatives, priorities, and policies for these areas to support the departmental and divisional priorities. The Student Center Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Student Center, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role includes managing facility operations, coordinating events, supervising student staff, and maintaining high standards of customer service.

Establishes and aligns short-and long-range strategic goals with the vision of the Student Center to ensure the success of the department. Designs and implements new service models to effectively assist students as necessary and appropriately. Oversee the coordination of Student Center facility space and event production needs for all programs held inside and outside the Student Centers. Continually evaluates Student Centers' services utilizing CAS Standards and Learning Outcomes for annual evaluation. Designs, recommends, and implements continuous business improvement solutions.

Effectively collaborates with internal constituents in planning, developing, and managing Student Center facilities. Actively participates with the Capital Projects Manager, in short- and long-range planning for capital repairs and renovations within Student Center facilities that will be submitted to the Vice President of Student Affairs. Regularly inspects facilities and collaborates with Buildings and Grounds for custodial and maintenance services.

Identifies scheduling solutions for accommodating changing priorities. Interfaces with Course Dog, Sodexo catering, Media Technology Services, and the Conference and Events to provide client focused costumer service.

Oversee web pages, social media platforms and monitors content to ensure accuracy of information. Assesses effectiveness, measures the progress, and establishes priorities for departmental programs. Assists in the development of short and long-range departmental goals and initiatives to support programs for students. Implement improvements to programs to ensure delivery of consistent learning objectives and supporting student engagement.

Serves on internal and external committees as necessary and/or appropriate. Attend professional and regional conferences as appropriate to remain current with trends and industry best practices.

Essential Functions:

1. Management:
  • Oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Student Center as the front-line person including maintenance issues, work orders, furniture, fixtures, audio/visual, signage and wall decor;
  • Assistance in the oversight of the Fitness Center and Recreational programs including intramurals and Esports;
  • Responsible for collaborating with the Director of the Student Center, Fitness & Recreation on the creation, implementation and management of policies and procedures for the Student Center and Facilities;
  • Develop and maintain a robust assessment and evaluation system for the department;
  • Develop and manage departments budgets;
  • Work with Athletics to keep laundry room clean and organized;
  • Report and resolve problems with Buildings and Grounds within the facility including but not limited to emergencies, incidents, and customer needs while following proper action and/or reporting protocols;
  • Assist, train, and develop professional staff in individual duties and their work with students;
  • Coordinate and maintain the room reservations, technical needs and set ups for the Student Center and its facilities;
  • Support Student Center operations by providing support in supervising student employees on duty during shifts, ensuring safety, security, and customer service standards are met and serving as Manager On Duty as needed;
  • Reports all building and cleaning issues through Schooldude;
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student staff including Operations Attendants, Event Assistants, building managers, information desk attendants, and reservations/set-up crews;
  • Coordinate onboarding, training, and evaluations, including emergency response protocols and sport-specific officiating;
  • Provide ongoing professional development, conduct performance evaluations, and offer feedback;
  • Oversee student staff during shifts to ensure safety, security, and customer service; serve as Manager on duty as needed;
  • Coordinate set-up crews for interior and exterior events, excluding major campus-wide events.

2. Maintenance:
  • Manage and track equipment maintenance including preventative maintenance and overall equipment usage;
  • Liaison with Building and Grounds for facility management and maintenance;
  • Abide by fire code regulations keeping hallways, stairwells clear & keep storage areas clean & organized;
  • Manage safe and proper storage of outside equipment including lawn chairs, fire pits, umbrellas, etc.

3. Collaboration & Assessment:
  • Serves as a member of the departmental leadership team contributing to long-range strategic planning, facility planning, budget development, equipment purchases, risk management, preparedness and response, implementation of the departmental Business Continuity Plan, and maintenance of accurate records. Creates various reports, strategic planning documents, and partnership agreements. Resolves problems, as required;
  • Directs departmental assessment efforts to include teaming outcomes, the evaluation and assessment of, services, and facilities, and benchmark studies. Provides training, provides guidance and support to departmental staff related to research, assessment, data analysis, and planning;
  • Collaborates with campus partners and academic units to develop and implement programs and events that contribute to student success. Serves as the departmental liaison with key internal and external partners and academic units, as well as serves on various external committees within the institution and professional organizations.

4. Budget Management:
  • Assist in Managing the operational budget for Student Center, Responsible for oversight and approval of student employee payroll.

5. Facility Operations:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Student Center, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure the facility is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and custodial staff to address any facility issues promptly.

6. Event Coordination:
  • Manage reservations and scheduling for events and meetings within the Student Center;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of events, ensuring all logistical needs are met;
  • Collaborate with campus departments and external organizations to facilitate events;
  • Ensure a high level of customer service is provided to all Student Center visitors;
  • Address and resolve any customer complaints or concerns in a timely manner;
  • Develop and implement customer service policies and procedures.

7. Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accurate records of facility usage, event schedules, and staff hours;
  • Prepare reports on facility operations and event outcomes;
  • Assist with budget management and financial reporting for the Student Center.

8. Community Engagement:
  • Promote the Student Center as a hub for student engagement and involvement;
  • Develop and implement programs and initiatives to enhance student experience;
  • Foster a sense of belonging and community within the Student Center.

Additional Functions:
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Management) or equivalent experience.
  • Supervised a staff that fostered a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Previous experience in facility management, event coordination, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Experience with facility/room reservation management tools.
  • Proficient skills in technology programs such as Microsoft office.
  • Experience working with budget management tools.
  • Working nights and weekends/non-traditional work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in CPR/AED.
  • Work experience on a college campus within a student center.
  • Management of student staff.
  • Marketing and communications experience with Canva, Constant Contact, and Social Media platforms.

Salary Range:

$50,000 to $52,000 annually
