Waste Water Treatment Technician
Key Accountabilities
Be familiar with the operation of all waste water transport and treatment equipment (mechanical and electrical) and treatment processes for safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the treatment system in compliance with state and federal permit limitations (SPDES-NPDES). Operate and place waste water treatment system in and out of service as required or directed. Remove and return treatment equipment to service, both mechanically and electrically, in accordance with established procedures. Perform routine procedures such as changing charts, recording required data, collecting samples, and lubricating equipment. Conduct special equipment and miscellaneous tests and record results. Communicate treatment system status and any relevant information to Watch Engineer and Supervisor directing a boiler fireside wash. Perform all phases of chemical analysis. Add chemicals and adjust chemical feed rates and process flow as required. Perform equipment inspection and calibration on a routine basis or as required. Analyze, trouble-shoot, and initiate repairs (mechanical and electrical) to correct irregularities whenever possible. May work on energized circuits and on equipment in service. Report irregularities and permit violations to Watch Engineer and record same. Check material and chemical deliveries before and after unloading. Perform and assist in receipt of material and chemicals where such functions are not performed by a contractor or plant personnel. Assist in the removal of waste material (filter cake, grit) and operate equipment if required for removal of such material. Promote and maintain good housekeeping at treatment site. Perform similar or less skilled work as may be assigned. Qualifications
NOTE: In addition to possessing the qualifications for this vacancy, employees selected will be expected to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements. Employees selected for this classification will be required to participate in federally mandated drug and alcohol testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year-round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause. Pay: $ 36.88 per hour Location: Port Jefferson Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union.
