The primary roles of education (students, residents, fellows and continuing medical education), clinical services (primary care, tertiary care, prevention, intensive care and long-term care), research (basic bench research, clinical trials and health systems), academic affairs/faculty development, and administration (finance and support services) are serviced through the operational divisions (reference organizational chart).
The clinical divisions represented in Medicine include Immunologic Diseases (Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology); Bone Marrow Transplant Services; Cardiology; Dermatology; Diabetes and Obesity Center; Endocrinology & Metabolism; Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition; General Internal Medicine; Hematology/Oncology; Infectious Diseases; Nephrology; and Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine. Faculty number sixty-six attending physicians and four research doctorates. Physician faculty represent close to 100 identifiable clinical venues in internal medicine, and each are members of clinical divisions.
