HJF is seeking a Group Facilitator/Trainer (Social Worker I) to develop training content, deliver live in-person workshops and remote Zoom groups, and provide coaching/outreach to participants. This position will also facilitate recruitment, consenting, onboarding and initial engagement procedures for soldiers entering this clinical trial. He or she will work in coordination with DoD Lead Staff and Teams and execute duties under the guidance and direction of Safeguard Project Program Managers, Primary Investigators and Clinical Supervisors. This position is based at Fort Hood.

This position will be in support of the Department of Psychiatry / Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress.

The Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) is one of the nation's oldest and most highly regarded, academic-based organizations dedicated to advancing trauma-informed knowledge, leadership and methodologies. The Center's work addresses a wide scope of trauma exposure from the consequences of combat, operations other than war, terrorism, natural and humanmade disasters, and public health threats as well as risk and protective factors associated with suicidal behaviors. CSTS is a part of our nation's federal medical school, Uniformed Services University (USU), and its Department of Psychiatry. These affiliations represent the Center's history, mission and future directions as a major contributor to our country's understanding of the impact of trauma and the advancement of trauma-informed care. The Department has active research programs in the Basic and Clinical Sciences and Neurosciences. In addition to intramural research projects, the Department maintains active research funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute of Drug Abuse, National Science Foundation, the Department of the Army and the Department of the Air Force. The department has ongoing collaborations with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, is sponsor of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress and provides psychiatry residency training through its affiliations with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center and Malcolm Grow Air Force Medical Center and the National Capital Area Graduate Medical Education Consortium.

  • Attend and complete training components required for the SAFEGUARD Life Skills Training (LST) program delivery
  • Facilitate recruitment sessions in a group setting, including (but not limited to) obtaining informed consent administering brief assessment measures, and answering questions about the study and study participation
  • Develop military-relevant training content for and deliver in-person and virtual group training/psychoeducational sessions with high fidelity
  • Deliver remote guidance (via text messaging or similar modes of communication) to participants in the LST program with high fidelity
  • Interface with other interventionists providing remote coaching/outreach
  • Attend weekly (and more often as needed) supervision meetings with assigned supervisor. Request additional 1:1 supervision as needed. Discuss issues with intervention delivery with supervisor as needed
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of live workshop delivery and virtual groups. Assist with maintaining research logs (e.g. daily participation and completion rate, & other study metrics).
  • Follow standard operating procedures defined by the LST program for referring individual participants to supervisor(s) or on-site clinical leadership for resources or clinical follow-up as needed
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including modifications to intervention content/manuals


Education and Experience



  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Public Health, or related behavioral science field required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Understanding of/familiarity with evidence-based psychological interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, Motivational Interviewing [MI], Problem-Solving Therapy, and related approaches
  • Knowledge of federal and local regulations and policies pertinent to research involving human subjects.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in front of groups, lead group discussions, and engage an audience
  • Experience presenting to large groups of people
  • Ability to adhere to delivering manualized psychological/educational intervention content during live workshops and remote groups
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Work collaboratively as part of team
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Familiarity with clinical research methods
  • Prior experience leading evidence-based clinical or psychoeducational workshops or groups (or teaching relevant courses) in behavioral science or another health-related field strongly preferred
  • Military experience or experience working with/familiarity with military populations strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Experience with Zoom and Redcap preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust clearance


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.


Compensation



  • The annual salary for this position is $73,800-$95,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
