Responsibilities

Responsible to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the art therapy services for patients of PrairieCare. The Art Therapist provides a range of services to patients and seeks to enhance the functioning of patients.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Provide group art therapy and maintain art therapy supplies
  • Facilitate individual sessions, as needed
  • This position may work with children, adolescents, and adults and or a combination of both
  • May need to provide coverage for other program therapists when absent or as the need arises (based on qualifications)
  • Contribute observations informed by their unique training in the area of art therapy
  • May be assigned supervision responsibilities for master level art therapy interns, based on qualifications

Qualifications

    • Requires master's degree in art therapy. Graduation from an accredited Art Therapy program and licensure as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) preferred, and progress towards LMFT or LPCC preferred
    • Two years experience in behavioral healthcare required
    • If not fully licensed, this position requires concurrent clinical supervision by a Registered Art Therapist (ATR or ATR-BC) until employee has obtained credentials approved by Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).
    • Educated in gender, cultural, ethical and age appropriate care for the assigned department
    • Art Therapist will adhere to the ATCB Code of Professional Practice and The American Art Therapy Association's (AATA) Ethical Principles for Art Therapist, as well as, facility policies and procedures
    • Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
    • Communication skills necessary to communicate well both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations, make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances, and after training, be able to manage disruptive and explosive patients
    • Licensed to bill independently and maintain required malpractice insurance
    • ATR or ATR-BC required

    Compensation for this role ranges from $27-33 per hour depending on education and experience.
