Responsibilities

The Recreational Therapist is responsible for providing high quality patient care, displaying good skills in assessment, treatment planning, group and individual treatment. Additionally, they are responsible for functioning well as a member of the multidisciplinary team and participating in the community relations program.

  • Ensures patient dignity and respects patient's values.
  • Ability to asses and reassess the needs of the patient.
  • Proper documentation of assessments.
  • Ability to communicate needs of patients.
  • Conducts therapies in accordance with patient diagnosis and needs.
  • Provides efficient discharge planning throughout treatment process.
  • Completes progress notes and assessments according to program procedures.
  • Contributes to the development of individualized treatment plans for each patient.
  • An active member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Plans and implements the unit's activity therapy program, including planning of daily events, special events and providing in-service for other staff participating in the activity therapy program.
  • Conducts divisional therapy program, including planning and coordination of all out-trips and arranging for guest speakers.
  • Conducts activity therapy individual and group sessions, as assigned, displaying good theoretical knowledge of individual and group principles and good group technique.
  • Functions cooperatively as a member of the treatment team.
  • Works sufficient hours to ensure effective performance.
  • Provides ongoing education to patient and family as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with families and agencies, conveying a positive professional image.
  • Provides resources and support for patient before, during and after treatment.
  • Is a member of the Referral Development Committee.
  • Actively involved in measuring patient performance.
  • Provides feedback to supervisor on ongoing basis in regards to concerns, improvements, changes, results and trends, etc..
  • Identifies areas needing improvement and utilizes the facility performance improvement process. Actively participates in department process as required.
  • Utilizes feedback regarding performance and uses supervision to improve performance.
  • Insures facility is safe and reports deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Completes all required competencies per program regulations.
  • Keeps current on CEU requirements to maintain licensure status.
  • Attends in-services, seminars, etc., to promote learning.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all information encountered.
  • Trained in CQI+ and follows procedures of CQI+.
  • Timely and accurate submission of CQI+ outcome data on a weekly basis including responsiveness to weekly feedback.
  • Completes progress notes in a timely and high quality fashion.
  • Utilizes universal precautions at all times to prevent and control infection.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or recreation with a therapeutic concentration required.
  • Licensed/certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation required (CTRS) within 9 months of hire.
  • Oklahoma Medical Board License preferred, however may work under supervision with temporary letter until final approval from medical board
  • 1-3 years' experience required.
  • Secure training required within 60 days of hiring, renew annually thereafter.
  • BLS required
