University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics

Job Title: Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional

Position #00838040 - Requisition #37427

Job Summary:

Join our cutting-edge collaborative research laboratory where RNA biologists, technology developers, and data analysts work together to discover and translate fundamental principles of RNA regulation. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that bridges basic science with real-world clinical applications, particularly in developing RNA therapeutics for pediatric genetic diseases and advancing our understanding of the mammalian immune system. As part of our team, you'll be at the forefront of revolutionary nanopore sequencing technologies to study transfer RNA (tRNA) dynamics in protein translation, while working directly with clinicians at Children's Hospital Colorado on developing life-changing RNA therapies for retinopathies and other genetic conditions.

Day-to-day, you'll engage in hands-on laboratory work using state-of-the-art nanopore sequencing technologies, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and clinicians, and contribute to research projects that have direct therapeutic potential. You'll gain invaluable experience in RNA biology, protein translation mechanisms, and therapeutic development while working in an environment that values innovation, collaboration, and the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical treatments that can improve patients' lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators and stakeholders to support laboratory operations and research functions focused on RNA regulation, tRNA dynamics, and therapeutic development

  • Execute advanced laboratory techniques including nanopore sequencing technologies, RNA analysis methods, and protein translation assays required for cutting-edge research projects

  • Perform experiments and analyze data related to transfer RNA function, protein translation mechanisms, and RNA therapeutic development, including statistical analysis and interpretation of results

  • Support analytical testing processes using specialized knowledge in RNA biology, including sample preservation, preparation protocols specific to RNA work, and documentation of results for research and clinical applications

  • Maintain laboratory operations by preparing workspaces for daily RNA research activities, managing specialized equipment for sequencing and RNA analysis, ensuring biosafety protocols, and maintaining the sterile environment necessary for therapeutic development

  • Manage laboratory materials and documentation including proper disposal of biological materials, maintaining detailed research logs and databases, and supporting quality control measures essential for both basic research and clinical translation efforts

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Why Join Us:

Our department conducts research across a wide biological scale for fundamental scientific understanding with applications to many disease contexts. The overarching goal is to reach a level of molecular insight that helps develop therapeutic approaches to disease.

As biochemists and molecular geneticists, we are amid an unprecedented time of discovery - our conception of the molecular biology of cells is going from the equivalent of grainy black-and-white to high-resolution technicolor. From deciphering the choreography of transcription complexes, chromosomes, and RNA molecules within cells to developing novel approaches to 3D molecular structure determination to understanding how viruses hijack a cell's machinery and alter its metabolome, the researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BMG) are at the forefronts of their fields both conceptually and technologically.
