Our mission is to serve citizens and the business community by administering tax programs mandated by the Code of Virginia and local ordinance in a manner that is efficient, fair, equitable, and thorough, while protecting the confidential personal and business information entrusted to the office.


Job Summary

The Office of the Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue is seeking a Senior Tax Exemptions and Deferrals Specialist. The successful candidate must have great organizational, time management, and customer service skills with the ability to manage a high volume of applications and work under deadlines. The Senior Tax Exemptions Specialist will be responsible for assisting the Deputy in effective day-to-day management of the following programs: 1) property tax relief for elderly and disabled, 2) land use assessment, 3) property tax exemption for disabled veterans and surviving spouses of members of the armed forces killed in action, 4) tax exemptions for revitalized real estate, 5) tax exemptions by classification and by designation of the Board of Supervisors and 6) tax exemptions for solar equipment. The incumbent provides back-up leadership in the Deputy's absence. Ensures the equitable treatment of all property owners applying for, or potentially entitled to, a tax deferral or exemption from real or personal property taxation in compliance with Virginia State Code and County Ordinances, and assists with issuance of final qualification determination. Responsible for pre-screening potential applicants to minimize the number of applications submitted by unqualified persons. Maintains, updates, and improves the online access to tax relief program documentation, applications, and information that is provided to county officials, taxpayers and the general public in accordance with state and local laws. Assists with the regular review of all assigned real and personal property tax exemptions, ensuring that exempt property continues to be used for the purpose for which the exemption was granted. Has responsibility for tax deferral and exemption inquiries by telephone, email, and in writing ensuring that citizens receive a response that is friendly, informative, accurate, literate, and timely.

Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Law, Taxation, or related field and two (2) years of related work experience with extensive experience with automated systems and customer service preferably in taxation or finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience desired.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

The successful candidate will undergo criminal background, credit, and DMV record checks. Must maintain a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
