Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist for the Dean's Office within the Graduate School of Education (
GSE). This position reports to the Business Manager
III Supervisor and is responsible for managing and maintaining the administration of the Graduate School of Education (
GSE) Designated, Endowed, Restricted, and Grant accounts.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds, prepares financial statements reflecting the status of programs and activities.
- Analyses financial data and prepares financial documents, actions, and reports for internal and external purposes.
- Ensures compliance with University and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.
- Creates and maintains database to capture employee and historical data.
- Acts as a liaison to ensure the integration of GSE business activities across departments and within University structure.
- Works under general supervision, within established parameters, with few direct instructions.
- Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor.
- Performs professional work requiring knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting.
- Provides assistance in the day-to-day operations and development of GSE policies and procedures.
- Performs special projects for management as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- A minimum of two years relevant experience in a financial/accounting function, and knowledge of Federal and State grant regulations.

- Good communication skills and computer literacy, specifically with the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and professionally with limited supervision while exercising sound accounting judgement is mandatory for this position.
- Ability to work closely with a variety of personnel and assist them with their daily problems/questions is a critical component of this position.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Pre-award sponsored project experience in budget preparation is preferred but not required.
- Financial report writing experience with Tableau software and/or SmartView are a plus.
- Working knowledge of Oracle Financial Management Cloud, Concur, SciQuest (Marketplace), HCM, and ability to create custom reports and complex financial analysis utilizing Excel is preferred.

- This position requires excellent computer skills including but not limited to the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, Access, etc.), Adobe, and in-depth understanding of university systems such as Oracle Financial Management Cloud, HCM (Personnel/Payroll), Marketplace (Procurement), Concur (Expense Management), RAPSS, Researcher's Dashboard, and ECRT.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- This is an office position in a space with a high volume of traffic. Successful candidates will need to be able to function in an environment where interruptions can be common.
- Some minor lifting (<25 pounds) may be occasionally required.
