POSITION SPECIFICS

The Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management in the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State is seeking an Administrative Support Manager. Reporting to the Department Head, the final candidate will oversee day-to-day office administration, including the management of other full-time staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate support staff.

  • Oversee promotion and tenure dossier preparation, sabbatical leave requests, and peer teaching review process.

  • Oversee operational and administrative processes and monitor deadlines.

  • Handle confidential materials related to salaries, recruitment of faculty, budgets, foreign national paperwork (i.e., visas), etc.

  • Oversee proper budget expenditures, including restricted and general funds. Prepare the department's annual operating budget for submission to the Dean and Financial Officer.

  • Approve financial documents, recommend funding plans, and provide post-grant management oversight.

  • Liaison with college HR to manage all aspects of job searches for faculty, staff, and research personnel.

  • Proxy for the department head on a variety of budgetary and personnel forms/documents. Gather data and provide information on various annual reports.

Experience Requirements:

The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills (both written and oral), organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to act independently and as a member of a management team, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential material. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe, is required. Experience with financial, student, and human resources systems is desired.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Associate Degree 8+ years of relevant experience, includes 3+ years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
