Position Summary:
The primary function of the Tax Analyst I, State and Local Tax (SALT) is to support all aspects of state taxation in achieving its objectives related to multistate indirect and income tax compliance, reporting, and planning. This role focuses on assisting with the preparation, analysis, and communication of state and local tax matters, including sales and use tax, property tax, state income tax, and franchise fees. The analyst will also contribute to monitoring legislative changes, supporting digital transformation initiatives, and enhancing tax processes through automation and analytics.

Pay Range: This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
Level I: $26.01 - $39.06 per hour
Level II: $65,300 - $98,050
Senior: $84,600 - $126,900

Reporting Relationship: Director, Tax

Location: Corporate Headquarters - Rapid City, South Dakota

Essential Job Functions:
* Assist in the preparation, forecasting, and reporting of state and local indirect taxes, including sales and use tax, property tax, and franchise fees.
* Support the coordination and timely filing of SALT compliance obligations and statutory returns.
* Maintain effective internal controls and assist with variance analyses and account reconciliations.
* Research and communicate the impact of state and local tax legislation, regulatory changes, and tax rate updates.
* Contribute to the automation of SALT processes using digital tools and workflows.
* Support the development and implementation of SALT policies aligned with business strategies.
* Analyze financial data and forecasts to assess SALT implications.

Additional Responsibilities:
* Enhance and sustain SALT software tools and support the development of real-time tax analytics.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions.
* Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

What is Required:
Level I:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
* No experience required. Training provided.
Level II:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
* Minimum 3 years of tax or accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Senior:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
* Minimum 5 years of tax or accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

What is Desired:
* Interest in or foundational knowledge of state and local tax concepts, especially indirect tax.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI; familiarity with automation tools is a plus.
* Willingness to learn systems such as PowerPlan, OneSource, and PeopleSoft/Oracle.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Customer-focused mindset with excellent interpersonal skills.
