Job Description
Under the supervision of the Coordinator for Career Services, the Student Assistant provides assistance to students in our advising lab with all aspects of online self-service functions, including OwlNet login and navigation; printing schedules; assisting with scheduling classes; scheduling appointments; applying for graduation; using DegreeWorks; supporting LiveChat; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The Student Assistant also monitors incoming job postings; assists employers and students with accessing College Central Network; scheduling employer recruitment tables; and other duties as assigned.

As a condition of employment, this position requires participation in a Maryland State Retirement System plan.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Required Experience
One year of customer service experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) or similar applications (e.g., Google Workspace)
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and able to create an open and welcoming environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Harford Community College's OwlNet web portal
  • Experience using Brightspace or any other cloud-based learning management system (LMS)
  • Knowledge in using Outlook for email
  • Familiarity with College Central Network for posting and managing positions for students and HCC alumni.

Hours per Week 20
General Weekly Work Schedule
Monday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m . Final schedule to be determined by the supervisor.
