The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Physician Assistant will develop a clinic-based practice in all aspects of Otology. This role works in collaboration with; and is an integral member of our otology team during outpatient visits. The Physician Assistant primarily is expected to be an independent practitioner, managing patients with ear diseases such hearing loss, ear infection in collaboration with supervising otologists. The Physician Assistant has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice /education and provides an environment of quality care. This role demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgement, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.

Responsibilities



  • Performs and documents in the medical record a complete history and physical examination.
  • Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • The nurse practitioner/physician assistant may serve as the first responder for both nursing and house staff in the event of patient status changes, orders, and in situations requiring procedural interventions.
  • Assesses for risks associated with the care of the acute and chronic conditions.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulates differential diagnoses by priority.
  • Diagnoses complications and orders appropriate interventions
  • Identifies expected outcomes from diagnosis and formulates and documents a plan of care to address complex acute and chronic health care needs.
  • Utilizes evidenced based practice guidelines or protocols in an individualized, dynamic plan of care that can be applied across the continuum.
  • Prescribes diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Manages further diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • May perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.
  • Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the inpatient and outpatient continuum of care.
  • Documents/dictates key components of patient's history and plan of care
  • Documentation is timely, meets acute care compliance standards and captures patient acuity.
  • Documents appropriate need surgical intervention or plan of care.
  • Demonstrates Professional Practice behaviors including preceptor/mentoring, education and instruction of our certified medical assistants.
  • Actively participates in Grand Rounds, APN council meetings, faculty and unit meetings, M&M presentations.
  • Maintains CEUs, and membership in a professional organization.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Physician Assistants: Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited or New York State Education Department approved PA education program.
  • 4 years of related experience.


Minimum licensing/certifications required upon start date:



  • NYS PA License and NCCPA Board Certification.
  • BLS Certification.
  • DEA Certification.


Other Requirements



  • Ability to perform comprehensive history and physical examination.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload.
  • Work within a collaborative agreement/protocols with a physician and health care team.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability to manage patients and interact effectively with peers and physicians.
  • Must have excellent clinical skills in a high-volume, high-pressure environment.
  • Must be able to work independently and efficiently.
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of staff and must understand patient confidentiality.
  • Must be highly motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented individual who can be creative and take initiative as needed.
