Tax Manager

 

PEMEX Deer Park is seeking a Tax Manager to oversee and lead the company’s comprehensive tax function. This role is responsible for managing all areas of tax compliance, provision, planning, audit support, and risk mitigation. As the company’s primary in-house tax expert, the Tax Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams—including finance, legal, and operations—as well as external advisors to ensure alignment with the refinery’s financial objectives and strategic business goals.

To succeed as a Tax Manager, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Tax required.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive tax experience, including deep expertise in Sales & Use Tax, manufacturing tax issues, and extensive capital project tax treatment.
  • CMI certification preferred; CPA or other relevant credentials a plus.
  • Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Outlook, Power BI, and tax software (e.g., OneSource or similar).
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, business acumen, and exceptional communication ability to engage cross-functional teams and simplify complex tax concepts.

 

As a Yax Manager, you will:

  • Ensure timely, accurate compliance across all tax types (e.g., sales & use, property, excise, income/margin, payroll, partner distributions) and manage business license requirements in all jurisdictions.
  • Oversee tax advisor relationships and serve as the primary internal tax resource, providing strategic guidance to cross-functional teams and supporting complex business activities.
  • Lead audit preparation and resolution efforts, manage tax authority interactions, and maintain robust documentation to support favorable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with finance and operations to identify tax-saving opportunities, assess impacts of regulatory changes, and drive continuous process improvement.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls over tax processes and reporting, aligned with compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX), and support broader financial initiatives at the site and corporate level.

PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX. It is part of the Pemex group, a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics, and marketing. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the flexibility to process multiple grades of crude, producing high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The Pemex site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities, allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products.
