PURPOSE:


The Technical Market Development Specialist is responsible for providing broad technical and scientific knowledge to the Technical Market Development group, which provides solutions related to the Calumet product offerings, including both SPS and PB product lines and downstream lubrication formulation applications. The person who is placed in this role will also be required to grow their knowledge in all Calumet product offerings, enabling them to serve as a technical and regulatory voice for our products. Role will include development of products and application knowledge within the segments.



KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Support the Calumet organization by providing technical and regulatory assistance and advice concerning Calumet products, practices, and processes
  • Respond to customer inquiries concerning technical aspects of our products (behavior, purity, characteristics, handling, degradation, etc.), covering SPS and PB product lines.
  • Grow technical relationships with each external customer, to establish opportunities to support with the full range of Calumet offerings, by learning the customer's application, and any additional need where Calumet could support
  • Attend customer and internal site visits as the technical expert to support sales opportunities
  • Coordinate customer requests and manufacturing capabilities to provide new or revised products into Calumet's portfolio, serving as the conduit with refinery or external laboratories to confirm product attributes as they pertain to suitability
  • Resolve customer complaints/concerns in all areas including product performance or quality
  • Serve on various teams intended to develop and improve products/processes
  • Provide market support for sales and customers.
  • Communicate new application and product knowledge to support sales efforts and enhance application knowledge level.
  • Actively work for information exchange with international organizations.
  • Support product specification management systems.



REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:



  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 5 to 7+ years' experience in petroleum base oils, petrochemical refining, lubrication products, and laboratory procedures conducted in the testing of petroleum products
  • Travel expectation 10-15%, as driven by sales support function, refinery or customer site visits, or technical committee demands



PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:



  • STLE OMA I highly desirable, a strong knowledge of a wide range of petroleum products and applications, with primary focus on base oils, lubricants, and petroleum waxes. Experience in responding to any inquiry related to the full slate of Calumet products, including white mineral oils, petrolatum, gelled hydrocarbons, hydrocarbon solvents, asphalts, and fuels also desirable
  • Client-facing responsibilities from a refinery or laboratory-based environment highly desirable, however individuals with proper scientific knowledge and client-facing skills would also be favorably reviewed



COMPETENCIES:



  • Must be skilled in negotiation and managing urgent internal and external customer inquiries, maintaining a positive client-facing perspective
  • Must be adept in Microsoft Office applications; experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Oracle JD Edwards, or SAP desirable
  • Must have knowledge and experience in attending technical and/or regulatory committee meetings (ASTM, STLE, ASHRAE, SAE, etc.) as relevant to any industry/application technical organizations relevant to Calumet as needed in any technical or regulatory capacity
  • Ability to work with teams, small groups, or as an individual with flexibility to maintain objectivity to resolve issues including confrontational situations
  • Flexibility to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and follow each to completion
