Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Department of Facilities Management functions are to design, construct, maintain and operate the physical facilities of the University. The number one objective of the department is to provide and maintain facilities that will enhance and support the mission and academic goals of the University. Our approach is centered upon providing a superior level of customer service.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Assistant Director of Operations supports the Director of Facilities Management by providing leadership and operational oversight for skilled trades, maintenance, and building systems operations across campus. This position ensures the efficient, safe, and effective delivery of all facility operations in alignment with the mission and strategic goals of Fayetteville State University. The Assistant Director plays a key role in maintaining campus infrastructure and improving service delivery through staff supervision, resource management, strategic planning, and compliance with state and university standards.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in facilities operations, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to urgent operational needs.
  • Knowledge of modern facility management systems, work order platforms (e.g., TMA, CMMS), and energy efficiency principles.
  • Knowledge of modern Building automated systems (BAS).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Certifications such as Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), or Certified Facility Manager (CFM)
  • Experience in a higher education or public sector environment
