Description

The Cost Accountant will support the Manchester Controller and accounting functions by takng ownership of cost accounting, the monthly accounting cycle, and related analytical and accounting operations. While the primary focus will be on cost accounting, the position will also require general accounting expertise and the ability to manage a second major process, i.e. AP or AR.

Responsibilities and Essentials



  • Cost Accountant that will be responsible for the accurate reporting of inventory, manufacturing costs, manufacturing variances, and gross margin analysis as well as other Ad hoc assignments.
  • Successful candidate will predict, plan, and record variable costs such as purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs
  • Understand Bill of Materials and Router structures for manufactured products and work with Engineering and Operations to ensure system cost rollups are accurate
  • Execute and document internal controls and reviews over inventory and gross margin reporting including cost of goods sold, scrapped material, purchase price variances, standard cost changes, excess & obsolete and shrink reserves, cost closing process, inventory revaluation, monthly inventory reconciliations, manufacturing variances
  • Responsible for gathering and compiling cost information and maintains database concerning expenses
  • Reviews and analyzes inventory and margin reports, conducts research, and performs analytical studies in regard to cost and performance
  • Liaise with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to drive operational improvements
  • Performs month-end and year-end closings
  • Prepares and posts standard Journal Entries
  • Analyzes and develops standard costs and performs cost roll-ups
  • Monitor on-going cycle counts, ensuring accuracy of inventory counts, perform periodic internal audits and ensure SOX compliance of supporting documentation and review of results and adjustments
  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting system, documents, and records of the organization.
  • Analyze and recommend costs and cost savings.
  • Prepare and complete internal cost audits.
  • Analyze any changes in goods or services provided in order to determine what effect it has on the cost.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Provide management with reports that specify and compare factors that affect prices and profitability of products or services.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations as required.
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and company policies
  • Collaborate and work closely with key contacts in other departments to resolve reconciling differences and unrecorded transactions
  • Handle billing function including invoicing and collections.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to better influence decision making and course correction
  • Participate in the preparation of financial presentations for Board meetings, monthly performance reports, and budget/forecast discussions.



Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field
  • 7 to 10+ years of general Accounting experience with at least 3 years in manufacturing experience including Cost Accounting.
  • A working knowledge of GAAP
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical / problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Abililty to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to collaborate with other departments and functions in achieving project goals.
  • Use available resources to support customer needs and expectations on both a local and company-wide level.
