Job Details:
Mercer University's Computer Science department is searching for a Systems Manager I on the Macon, Georgia campus.

Responsibilities:

This Systems Manager I position will carry out the workload assigned by the CSC Department's Systems Manager. This includes assisting in planning, acquisition, installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of all computer systems, network infrastructure, and A/V equipment within the Computer Science Department. This position ensures the reliability and performance of all departmental servers, client workstations, faculty, staff, and lab equipment.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Cybersecurity, or related field and two years of working with computer systems and networks, that must include system server administration and LAN Management, are required. In lieu of a degree, equivalent combination of education and directly related experience will be considered. Candidates with a master's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Cybersecurity, or similar field are highly desirable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficient with Windows Server administration in order to maintain department windows servers.
  • Proficient with Linux administration in order to maintain department Linux servers.
  • Proficient with different client operating systems such as Windows, and Linux in order to maintain department workstations
  • Proficient with network components such as Routers, Firewalls and Switches in order to maintain department network.
  • Proficient in managing equipment in our Creativity Lab, such as 3D Printers, Laser Engraver/Cutter, Raspberry Pi controlled devices, Virtual Reality stations, Embroidery Machines, etc...
  • Proficient in managing typical equipment found in an IoT Lab, such as Google Home, Alexa, Chrome Cast, Smart Plugs, Smart Fans, Roomba, Smart kitchen appliances, etc...
  • Proficient in managing student lab assistants.
  • Proficient in recommending future directions in hardware.
  • Proficient in managing a web site.
  • Proficient with virtualization of servers.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals (students, faculty and staff) in providing computer support.
