Overview We're seeking a Information Systems Security Engineer Level 3 to lead technical security assessments of computing environments to uncover vulnerabilities, ensure compliance with Information Assurance (IA) standards, and recommend strategic mitigations. Design and validate system security architectures that span complex networks, multi-enclave environments, and systems with varying classification levels.Integrate security into every layer of system development from concept to deployment ensuring operational environments are fortified from the ground up. Collaborate with architects and developers to embed security functionality that aligns with Agency policy and enterprise-wide solutions.Build trusted relationships between external systems and enforce secure architectural boundaries. Assess and mitigate threats throughout the system lifecycle, applying deep expertise in risk analysis, intrusion detection, contingency planning, and incident response. Drive certification and accreditation (C&A) efforts by reviewing documentation, ensuring completeness, and guiding compliance with NSA/CSS and DoD standards. Apply advanced security engineering across domains including cryptography, authentication, authorization, auditing, and secure system integration. Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Serve as the primary security engineering voice on cross-functional teams, shaping the design, development, and integration of secure networks, computing platforms, and enclave environments.
Lead the creation and implementation of Information Assurance (IA) architectures and system components that meet mission-critical security standards. Use your mastery of IA policies, procedures, and workforce structures to architect secure systems that protect sensitive government data across diverse environments. Design and evaluate multi-enclave systems with varying classification levels, ensuring seamless protection and compliance. Engage directly with customers, IT staff, and senior leadership to define security goals and deliver innovative solutions that meet operational needs. Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior security engineers, elevating the technical excellence of the entire team. Lead efforts in security planning, risk assessment, and mitigation, ensuring systems are resilient against evolving threats. Recommend system-level solutions that resolve complex security requirements while aligning with enterprise objectives. Enforce the design and implementation of trusted connections between external systems and architectures, safeguarding data flow and interoperability. Ensure that all systems-whether program-of-record or specialized platforms-are secure by design, with robust IA integration from the ground up. Monitor and recommend improvements to IA policies and procedures, helping shape the future of cybersecurity standards. Advocate for cutting-edge security solutions that push the boundaries of what's possible in secure system engineering.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Twenty (20) years experience as an ISSE on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. DoD 8570 compliance with IASAE Level 3 is required Both Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP) and CISSP Certifications are required. A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or related discipline may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to eighteen (18) years of experience. Four (4) years of additional ISSE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
