DESCRIPTION:
Requesting a Mechanical Engineer with experience for a nuclear facility in Southport, NC. The individual will perform engineering work for Mechanical projects within the engineering organization. The candidate will typically be involved in designing, constructing, modifying, and maintaining the mechanical components and systems for the nuclear facility, ensuring compliance with codes and standards and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The candidate will work with various stakeholders, including operations personnel, maintenance personnel, other Engineering disciplines and related organizations, to ensure safe and efficient operation of nuclear facilities. Current qualification at a nuclear utility as a Modification Engineer under an INPO Accredited Program and knowledge of Consolidated Asset Suite for design and work order development is highly desirable. Individuals will be required to obtain qualifications as a Modification Engineer and Design Verification Engineer prior to working independently. Selected individuals will act as a Lead Technical and/or Responsible Engineer for assigned projects and in a support capacity on other projects. The individual will field follow implementation, develop revisions, complete post modification testing, and turnover of design products. Implementation follows a Site schedule, and the individual may be required to support the design implementation of normal hours.
Responsibilities will include design package development, developing conceptual designs and specifications for bidding purposes, evaluating alternatives, technical support during implementation, coordination of design efforts with selected vendors/AEs/designers and conducting design package reviews. Design products for mechanical systems and components, component evaluations, and code compliance analysis can be expected. Individual will be required to qualify in the necessary duty areas to act independently as a Responsible Engineer for modifications with past qualifications and product demonstration from other utilities as an acceptable alternative. Lastly, the individual will be expected to exhibit sound technical judgment and guidance to the engineering and implementation team.
* This position is considered as a independent contract professional that does not require physical labor, however the candidate must be able to traverse congested areas, climb ladders and work in an industrial environment from time to time.
* The nuclear environment requires the candidate to use Personal Protective Equipment when working inside the power plant. This includes hearing protection, gloves, safety shoes, eye protection, and hard hat at a minimum. Additional PPE may be required based on work location.
* The position will primarily work in an office environment with occasional trips into the power plant to support walkdowns, troubleshoot design conflicts and to confirm existing conditions.
* A nuclear power plant is an industrial environment where the candidate could encounter hazards in the field such as trip hazards, close quarters, working at heights, areas of high noise and other hazards typical of an industrial facility. Additionally, due to the nuclear environment, exposure to radiation and contamination are possible when doing walkdowns.
* As this position is a professional position there are no work requirements for minimum ability to lift or move equipment.
* As mentioned above the candidate will encounter occasional ladder use and must be able to safely traverse the ladders. While ladder height varies, most will be less than 20 ft for fixed ladders and portable ladders are generally 8 feet or less.
* This position does not require the operation of machinery, nor will the candidate be required to drive off of plant site as part of their job function or operate a vehicle. On infrequent occasions the candidate may need to travel, at the company"s expense, to vendor facilities to witness testing or manufacturing processes as part of assigned projects.
* This position is considered a hybrid work position where a minimum of 50% of their work time must be at the facility while the balance could be working from a remote location. An example of work schedule could be one week at the facility and one week at home. Other options are available and should be discussed as part of the hiring process.
* The preference is for the candidate to work 40 or more hours per week for the duration of the assignment. For exceptionally qualified candidates reduced work hours can be negotiated down to a minimum of 20 hours per week.
