Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Temporary Facilities Engineer will assist the Director of Utilities and Engineering and the
AVC in supporting, implementing, and managing a comprehensive campus-wide (or multi-facility) energy and infrastructure management plan and provide knowledge of best practices in engineering, and/or energy management for existing and new facilities. These projects may include new buildings, infrastructure improvements, major and minor renovations and whole building modernizations.
Position will perform engineering skills to effectively implement and manage design decisions and facilitate energy saving campus-wide projects. Along with new buildings, work may include, infrastructure improvements, major and minor renovations and whole building modernizations. The position will have responsibility for facilitating reductions to meet mandated and desired requirements. The position will work with university departments as well as State and Federal entities.
This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and maybe required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice or debris as required. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience
- All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience |
- Work may require professional licensure or other certifications from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Qualification for professional licensing/registration preferred, but not mandatory.
- Experience in design and operational strategies for reducing energy consumption; and experience in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive, campus-wide (multi-facility) energy management plan is preferred.
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of construction, including functional design, material, estimating, construction techniques and general trade practices, and governing codes and regulations.
- Ability to objectively review designs prepared by architects and engineers, including the ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Ability to estimate project-related costs.
- Ability to communicate technical subjects effectively, both orally and in writing, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to make presentations to all levels of faculty, staff, students, and outside groups.
