ChampionX has an immediate need for an HSE Specialist located in Odessa, TX. The HSE Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the organization's Health, Safety & Environmental strategy, ensuring all employees have a safe and healthy work environment. Ensure compliance with regulations and laws including ChampionX environmental policies. Works under general supervision to lead health and safety initiatives in a region.

What You Will Do:

  • Actively promote the safety process and report any safety issues through proper channels for action.

  • Drives and contributes to the department continuous improvement culture.

  • Partners with employees, management and Product Line Leadership.

  • Ability to educate and train workforce on health, safety, and environmental policies and standards as required by company policy, customer requirements and regulatory bodies.

  • Conducts safety assessments to identify and detect existing or potential risks, incidents, and health hazards, determines corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented and completed.

  • Recommends changes to working conditions to ensure all employees have a safe and healthy working environment including industrial hygiene requirements.

  • Investigates accidents, completes or verifies accident reports, and liaises with safety authorities to identify the root causes of accidents and prevent their recurrence.

  • Ensures compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Personally observe safety and security procedures and proper use of equipment and material.

  • Manages compliance with Product Line HSE training plans and programs and delivery of training.

  • Understand the components of the HSE Management Systems; maintains accurate data in accordance with applicable record retention requirements.

  • Implement and maintain company HSE documents adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.

  • Ensures medical case management practices are communicated, implemented, and followed for work related injuries and reasonable accommodations are made to mitigate aggravation of non-work related injuries.

  • Leads the investigation of incidents and injuries, and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations; prepares studies and analyses of industrial incident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

  • Conduct and/or assist with risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

  • Compile and analyze HSE statistics and incident reports. Issue monthly reports to Regional HSE Manager.

  • Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and employ basic reasoning skills.

  • Interact politely and professionally with customers and/or coworkers.

  • Other duties as required.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all matters.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Four years of HSE experience in manufacturing in the oil and gas industry.

  • General Industry knowledge and EPA / DEQ knowledge for manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety or other relevant degree.

  • Over four years HSE experience with advanced knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DEQ regulations.

  • Professional certification in HSE (ASP, CSP, OHST).

  • Advanced knowledge of Worker's Compensation laws.

Essential Functions

  • Follow all safety policies and company-wide safety requirements.

  • Challenge unsafe behavior and conditions proactively and positively.

  • Regularly and predictably attend work and be punctual.

  • Work in an unsupervised environment.

  • Read, write, and speak English fluently.

  • Use a computer to communicate, create, and access information. Proficient in Microsoft tools, i.e. Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Lead safety meetings as needed.

  • Conduct HSE training for employees and contractors.

  • Mentor shop and field employees on HSE initiatives and policies.

  • Manage environmental inspections.

  • Promote continual improvement within the HSE program.

  • Ability to present to Customers.

  • Ability to work within the US without sponsorship of VISA.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Employee is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment including but not limited to shoes/boots, hard hats, or respirators.

  • Some work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities.

  • Work may include visits to customer office or field locations.

  • Work normally is executed in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.

  • Work may require visits to customer field locations in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.
