Position Overview: The Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert - Lead serves as a senior technical authority for the Cybersecurity Assessment Program, providing expert-level analysis, research, and solutions for exceptionally complex cybersecurity challenges. This role requires independent, strategic thinking and the ability to design and guide the implementation of innovative solutions in alignment with DoD cybersecurity requirements. Operating under consultative direction, the SME will influence long-term cybersecurity strategies, develop new methodologies, and ensure compliance with evolving Department of Defense (DoD) standards and directives. Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical authority for complex cybersecurity assessments, evaluations, and solutions.
- Provide expert guidance and interpretation for cybersecurity policies, standards, and requirements.
- Lead research and development efforts to address unique and advanced cybersecurity challenges.
- Recommend and evaluate cybersecurity software tools, assist with requirements definition, and develop product-specific STIGs based on applicable DISA SRGs.
- Conduct and oversee Command Cyber Readiness Inspections (CCRI), vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing across networks, databases, applications, and IT frameworks.
- Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts to create innovative solutions and methodologies.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project teams, fostering a culture of excellence and compliance.
- Maintain expert-level knowledge in DoD security regulations, DISA STIGs, and cybersecurity toolsets.
- Prepare and deliver detailed technical reports, briefings, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Work autonomously, determining and executing courses of action to achieve strategic cybersecurity goals.
Minimum Requirements:
- Certifications:
- DoD 8570 IAT Level III baseline certification. (CASO + CE, CCNP Security, CISA< CISSP, GCED or GCIH)
- Experience:
- Seven (7) years of IT experience.
- Five (5) years of cybersecurity experience.
- Proven proficiency in CCRI, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong skills in network implementation, configuration, and security.
- In-depth knowledge of DoD security regulations, DISA STIGs, and security compliance requirements.
- Expert proficiency with tools and systems including:
- VULNERATOR, USCYBERCOM CTO Compliance Program, wireless vulnerability assessment,
- Web services (IIS, Apache, Proxy),
- Databases (SQL Server, Oracle),
- Email services (Exchange),
- Vulnerability scanning tools (NESSUS, SCCM),
- Phishing exercises, USB Detect, and physical security controls.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently on complex projects with minimal supervision.
Security Clearance
- Must hold an active TOP secret clearance
