Mission Statement

Position Summary

Respond directly to the Corps officer in charge of programming. He/she shall work in close cooperation with the Corps officers, Community Center Directors, and other ministry staff, in fulfilling clerical support and in developing and promoting Salvation Army programs. He/she shall assist the Corps officer in Corps growth and outreach. The position requires that the employee be able to share Jesus Christ with others, both individuals and with groups of all sizes. This person must be able to promote team ministry and be willing to work with others to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Santa Ana Temple Corps programs. Prior experience working with church programs ministries is a must. Must possess a valid driver's license. He/she must take The Salvation Army's driver safety test and attend instruction of the Child Safety Program. It is expected that the person will be able to demonstrate the following characteristics in relation to their assigned duties: creativity, self-motivation, responsibility, accountability, flexibility, strong leadership, good people skills, and a high level of integrity.

Essential Functions

Program Responsibilities

Responsible for the coordination and/or implementation of all corps youth programs.



  • Responsible for management, growth, development, and promotion of Corps youth ministry programming (Troops, Jr. Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Sunday School, Youth Group, Gospel Choir, Singing Company, Junior Church, Sports & Nursery and other Corps youth programs.
  • Work with teachers, volunteers, and other ministry staff to develop and improve existing Youth programs and grow attendance. This will include competitions and special events. This also includes developing and equipping our teachers and volunteers through training and workshops.
  • Develop youth and/or family sports programs utilizing the campus community center (basketball, volleyball, and/or weekly open gym nights.
  • Coordinate or lead classes when needed.
  • Create opportunities for youth to participate in ministry, both inside and outside the corps.
  • Provide ministry in the community.
  • Promote discipleship programs, Junior Soldiers and Corps Cadets, recruit and develop leaders. When there are no leaders, be responsible for leading those classes.


Recruitment Training and Leadership Responsibilities



  • Build strong peer relationships with social service program managers and corps leaders.
  • Attend weekly campus program meetings and corps ministry meetings.
  • Responsible for recruitment, training, development and coordination of leaders and volunteers for all Corps ministry youth programs. Where volunteer leaders cannot be secured, be prepared to lead strategically selected programs as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Salvation Army child safety requirements are met during all programs where minors are present.
  • Coordinate monthly and quarterly leadership meetings, including the required quarterly YP Pastoral Care Committee meetings. Make sure minutes get to corps officer.


Faily and Visitation Responsibilities



  • Strengthen relationships with children and their families through visitation, both corps families, campus families and families in immediate neighborhoods.
  • Reach out to families on campus through visitation, visit family when they first move in and encourage them to attend corps programs.
  • Develop and create ways of assisting, supporting and linking with parents. This could include teaching parenting classes or starting parenting support groups.
  • Organize monthly family events.


Logistics and Administrative Responsibilities



  • With input from leaders and youth develop and implement an annual calendar of youth events.
  • Organize routes and recruit drivers for pick-ups as needed for corps and youth programs. This includes, but is not limited to: Sunday School, mid-week youth programs, youth group, special events.
  • Be responsible for all clerical support for correspondence, record-keeping, filing and attendance at meetings related to programs of responsibility. This included monthly stats and troop reports and quarterly youth reports.


Summer Programming Responsibilities



  • Promote the ministry of Southern California Summer camps and develop relationships with campers, parents and camp staff. Recruit participants and volunteers for camp from programs, campus and wider community.
  • Visit Southern California summer camps as needed to create links between staff, campers and corps.
  • Follow up with local families who send kids to camp and recruit for corps programs
  • Coordinate and participate in summer programs for youth and families
  • Oversee and promote local music day camps.


Young Adult Ministry Responsibilities



  • Expand and develop youth adult's ministry in the corps. At present this included bible study.
  • Be available for any duties as assigned by the officers.
  • Promote and recruit youth to participate in corps ministry and outreach.


Kettle and Christmas Program



  • Assist kettle coordinator example include but are not limited to driving, counting, contacting malls, local contracts i.e.
  • Coordinate Angel Tree Program
  • Plan and Assist with Kettle Kick off
  • Coordinating corps and community Christmas celebrations.


Santa Ana Mission Statement

We as the body of spirit filled believers in Christ, envision a Corps that, through evangelism and worship, will deliver the message of love of Jesus Christ in a fresh, relevant and contemporary manner. We will continually strive to improve our worship by drawing and benefiting from available information, technology and methods. Desiring to reach all people, we will maintain an expression of worship that is seeker sensitive.

We will nurture spiritual growth in our corps family through development of small groups. Follow the example of Jesus Christ; we will encourage compassionate concern between one another. We will provide our corps members' opportunities for service and personal ministry. We will strive to improve the level of financial, facility and personal stewardship in our congregation. We will effectively build a comprehensive discipleship program.

In our social services ministry, we will continue to maximize our resources and take advantage of all possible opportunities to reach out in our community. We will demonstrate our spiritual compassion for people by emphasizing the integration between our community outreach programs and our corps family.

Empowered by God with the exception of corps growth, we will be a "planting" church. Our corps will model the process of identify lay leaders for "planting" purposes in our community. We will keep abreast of what is happening around us so that we can successfully network with and be a spiritual leader in the Christian community in our city.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate desktop computer, fax and telephone.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to write, read and speak English and Spanish.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Driving test and clean MVR check
  • If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certificate for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
  • Obtain CPR Certification
  • Class B License
  • Ability to perform basic computer skills
  • Communicate appropriately, receptively and supportively
  • Knowledge of electronic communication such as email, text, social media, etc.
