DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Security Officer 1, you will patrol the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home and protect our campus from fire, theft, trespass, and other hazards. You will patrol grounds by car or by foot, check parking areas and door locks, and make sure lights are on or off as necessary. You will conduct searches of vehicles and personal property under suspicious circumstances, assist staff in locating and returning missing residents, and work cooperatively with police. This role requires the use of observation skills and effective communication to conduct investigations, interview victims, and respond promptly to emergency calls. In addition, you will answer telephone calls and assist visitors, deliver medicine and supplies from building to building, and operate surveillance equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment, 40 hours biweekly
  • Work hours are 8 hour shifts
    • Week 1: 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday and Tuesday
    • Week 2: 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

In accordance with the seniority provisions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, this position was previously posted for seniority candidates. Since there were no seniority candidates, it is now open to all applicants.
