THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette is looking for a dedicated and experienced Metal Working Occupations Teacher proficient in welding to join our incredible team. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Metal Working Occupations Teacher, you will be responsible for providing inmates with the necessary training and skills for vocational trades, specifically in the field of welding. You will provide both theoretical and practical instruction, following the established National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) standards for welding. You will also be responsible for assessing the competency of individual students and issuing certificates accordingly. In addition, you will maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies, ensuring their security and proper maintenance. Any loss of equipment or supplies must be reported immediately. Furthermore, you will assist with the implementation and enforcement of all policies and regulations within the institution, including those related to conduct and behavior in the classroom. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that all students adhere to the rules and polices in place, promoting a safe and respectful learning environment for all.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Welding. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 3 years.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of or have eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be in possession of or have eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must have eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the training academy in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
