About This Role

The Director of Risk Management and Operations is responsible for leading and coordinating enterprise and operational risk activities across Kansas State University. This position oversees risk assessment, mitigation strategies, compliance-related initiatives, incident management, international travel safety, and threat assessment functions. The Director will guide university-wide programs to reduce institutional risk, support mission continuity, and foster a proactive, risk-aware culture. The position reports to the Chief Risk and Safety Officer and supervises a Risk and Compliance Manager.

The Division of Risk and Safety oversees the areas of environmental health and safety, emergency management, campus police, physical security, and the Office of Risk and Compliance. A unified, coordinated approach to risk and safety is an essential component of the university's goals of achieving operational excellence as envisioned by the Next-Gen K-State Strategic Plan

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, compliance, or related university operational areas.
  • Master's degree or professional certifications such as ARM, CRM, or ERM.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise risk management programs and supervising investigations or operational responses.
  • Strong knowledge of Clery Act, youth protection regulations, and contract liability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working within higher education.
  • Strong understanding of campus operational environments and shared governance.
