Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for teammates who'll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

In this hybrid role, you will report to a Systems Engineering Manager.

You will:



  • Work with cross functional teams including software engineers, product managers, and operations leads to develop and implement requirements, system architecture, and verification strategy for logging & network infrastructure and related depot automation flows.
  • Establish logging policies that balance conflicting needs from a wide array of stakeholders
  • Develop deep technical understanding of existing and new logging and network infrastructure and create testing methodologies that enables efficient launch of new depots
  • Debug field issues to determine root cause and identify solutions with cross functional teams. Be the point person for retrospectives and implement improvements to test coverage and processes to prevent similar issues


You have:



  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or other technical field
  • At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering, software development, or related field
  • A systems engineering mindset and a proactive, data-driven approach to fixing problems
  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects at once and working in ambiguity
  • Ability to query data sets (SQL) and create dashboards for debugging and performance monitoring
  • Basic proficiency with Linux commands for testing and debugging purposes


We prefer:



  • Strong foundation in system engineering fundamentals such as requirements definition, formal verification and validation methods
  • A background in data infrastructure, data storage hardware, or cloud computing
  • Experience debugging network performance issues
  • Experience with software integration testing
  • Experience deploying products at scale
  • Ability to read c++ to understand feature implementation and debug issues more effectively

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
