Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:


Required:



  • completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study.
  • 1 - 3 years relevant verifiable experience in a classroom setting.
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality through completion of Credential of Competency for Special Education Para-educators in Pennsylvania with 5 years' relevant verifiable experience.


Associate degree or higher is preferred.

Position Details and Duties


The Classroom Aide is a school employee who works under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children. The support and assistance include one-on-one, or group review of material taught by certificated staff, classroom management, and implementation of positive behavioral support plans. Services may be provided in a special education class, regular class, or instructional setting as provided in the students' IEP.



  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, etc. as assigned by the classroom teacher.
  • Present subject matter & planned lessons to students under the direction and guidance of teacher in a group setting.
  • Supervise students in designated areas and as assigned (e.g. hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias, playground, gym, field trips, etc.).
  • Monitor all classroom students' performance and record relevant data daily to assess progress.
  • Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Participate in parent - teacher conferences, as appropriate.
  • Assist in bus loading and unloading of students from transportation.
  • Will fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.
  • Complete New Hire Competency Assessment process.
  • Successfully pass safe crisis management training as required by program.
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned to meet programmatic needs.
