Job Summary
The Chief of Urgent Care provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and clinical direction for the Urgent Care service line at Denver Health Medical Center. This role integrates patient care excellence, academic teaching, and program development to ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective urgent care services. The Chief will oversee (directly and indirectly) attending physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and staff, while fostering a robust teaching and learning environment for medical students, residents, and fellows.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished clinician-educator with demonstrated leadership experience in urgent care, family medicine, general internal medicine or emergency medicine, and a strong commitment to innovation, team building, and academic excellence
Essential Functions:
- Lead the strategic vision, operational management, and growth of the Urgent Care service line. Collaborate with other clinical and administrative leaders across DHHA to align urgent care services with institutional priorities. Represent the urgent care service in institutional committees and initiatives. (10%)
- Provide direct patient care in the urgent care setting. (50%)
- Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives. Establish clinical protocols and standards consistent with best practices and regulatory requirements. (5%)
- Monitor quality metrics, patient satisfaction scores, and operational benchmarks, and implement improvement strategies as needed. Support and encourage scholarly activities related to urgent care delivery, quality improvement, or medical education. (5%)
- Develop and maintain an enriching learning environment for medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through urgent care. Collaborate with residency and medical school leadership to integrate urgent care training into curricula. Participate in didactic teaching, simulation training, and scholarly activities. Foster opportunities for learners and faculty to engage in clinical research, publication, and presentations. (5%)
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and workflows that ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. (5%)
- Oversee clinical scheduling, staffing, and productivity targets for physicians, advanced practice providers, and support staff. (5%)
- Monitor and manage departmental budget, resource allocation, and operational efficiency. (5%)
- Collaborate with community partners to improve access to urgent care and promote population health. (5%)
- Act as a liaison between urgent care and other hospital departments, ensuring smooth patient transitions and optimal care coordination. (5%)
Education:
- Doctorate Degree MD or DO Required
Work Experience:
- 4-6 years 4-6 years work experience required in an urgent care setting Required and
- 1-3 years 1-3 years in a position of leadership in primary care, urgent care or other specialty preferred
Licenses:
- MD- Physician - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
