POSITION SUMMARY:



  • The Manager of Category Management reports to the Senior Director, Category Management
  • Located in Mansfield, MA
  • Full-Time
  • Hybrid



As a Category Manager, you will take a leadership role in overseeing and managing a group of related products or services within a business, known as a category. Their role is pivotal in aligning key suppliers, product assortment, pricing, promotions, and inventory with consumer demand and market trends to drive category growth.


Category managers identify opportunities for product development and innovation, ensuring their category remains competitive and profitable. They act as the nexus between suppliers, TriMark leadership, sales, marketing, and procurement teams, optimizing the supply chain and enhancing the customer's experience. This expertise positions them as key contributors to a company's overall strategy and commercial success.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Vendor Strategy & Financial Performance



  • As representatives of TriMark, negotiate select buying group programs and all TriMark direct supplier programs.
  • Define vendor tiers (core, growth, support) with clear ownership and goals.
  • Focus on fewer, stronger supplier relationships that can deliver consistent margin, rebate and support.
  • Consolidate products to increase buying power and simplify go-to-market
  • Determine viability and placement in TriMark's selection of products, category and market.
  • Ensure appropriate training across sales teams and functional leaders.
  • Identify and execute on any promotional opportunities, spiffs, sales contests, etc.


Division Support & Execution



  • Actively work with division leadership to optimize supplier programs and increase share of rebateable purchases.
  • Develop programs that adapt to local needs but leverage national scale.
  • Partner with divisions to set compliance and vendor targets, setting a regular cadence to track and evaluate progress.
  • Provide supplier training to consistently reinforce and refresh product. knowledge. Integrate training, marketing and reporting into every rollout.


Data Analytics and SKU Strategy



  • Utilize data analytics to track what's working: sales trends, rebate performance, product turns, margin contribution.
  • Use data to inform category SKU strategy, vendor priorities, and promotional plans.
  • Ensure every division has the same tools and knowledge to succeed with the strategy.


Product and Supplier Expertise/Business Lead



  • For products within the scope of category management, inform, coach, teach, train, and influence product and supplier selection decisions across the company.
  • Regularly review supplier selections to ensure TriMark maintains strong competitive position.
  • Represent TriMark to the supplier community.
  • Drive strong program negotiation and execution, finding, and tracking, opportunities to maximize rebates and supplier programs to drive incremental profitability.
  • Problem solve, internally and externally, on issues such as credit holds, returns, rep group limitations, pricing discrepancies, program clarity, communication, product quality, vendor SLA's, lead times or other issues that get in the way of success.
  • Set long-term and short-term goals that align with TriMark's and Supplier's overall budget and growth strategy. Track and measure success.
  • Perform regular business and financial review on volume and spend - by category and division.
  • Identify and coordinate training opportunities - new products, performance gaps, etc.
  • Work with suppliers on any special initiatives.
  • Initiate RFP's / RFQ's on a regular basis to ensure best quality, pricing, design, availability, and strength of relationship.
  • Create and maintain vendor / supplier scorecards. These should include:
  • Quality - both product and representation by the supplier rep group if applicable
  • Customer service and responsiveness - ease of doing business
  • Price and market competitiveness - differentiation for TriMark based on volume
  • Lead generation (specifically as it applies to rep groups)
  • Willingness to provide specification credits or extra discounts
  • Execution of on-time delivery and accurate and timely invoicing



COMPETENCIES:



  • Strong leadership ability and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated sense of ownership and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with proficiency in report/query creation.
  • Strong analytical skills and basic accounting knowledge.
  • Power-user level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.



QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:



  • 6 - 8 years of experience in category management roles, or equivalent military or practical experience.
  • Proven experience in implementing strategic initiatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of ERP systems and demand planning functionality.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Team management and leadership experience.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check post offer acceptance.

The range provided represents the national average pay range for this position and is considered to be a general guideline. Pay for this position will reflect the candidate's unique qualifications and may be higher or lower than the range provided based on employee geographic location. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other local, state, and federal law.


In addition to base salary, this role will be eligible for participation in TriMark's' benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401K (with employer match), etc. Leadership positions may also qualify for participation in bonus programs commensurate with role and scope of responsibility.
