Principal Purpose of Position

  • Prepares samples for analysis/examination and carries out a limited range of basic metallurgical services under direct supervision of the Group Leader.
  • Perform mechanical and magnetic tests on standard equipment, such as hardness testing, tension, tensile, resistivity etc.
  • Perform metallographic tests using etchants, polishing equipment and standard metallographic equipment.
  • Collect and record test data obtained during the evaluation.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • This position can be located in any of the following areas: Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating.

Education and/or Training

  • High school diploma required.

  • Elementary knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment.

Problem Solving:

  • Solves routine problems by using standard procedures and/or processes.

Customer Response:

  • Responds to standard requests from internal or external customers.

Planning and Organizing:

  • Manages own time to meet deadlines through guidance of others within a specified timeframe.

Teamwork:

  • Works with others within own area or department to achieve team goals; scope of basic knowledge and skills.

Other:

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to conduct entry level activities narrow in scope and of relatively low complexity.
  • Ability to operate basic metallurgical/laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with direct supervision.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
