Job Summary:
The Data Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, build, and deployment of M1's centralized data
platform within the Azure Government Community Cloud (GCCH) environment. This senior-level role requires
deep technical expertise to architect, implement, and sustain secure, scalable, and compliant data
infrastructure. In addition to technical delivery, the Data Engineer will mentor junior team members and help
build long-term capabilities that support M1's data engineering and predictive analytics initiatives.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Architecture and Build Out
* Design, implement, and manage M1's centralized Data Lake/Data Intelligence Platform in Azure GCCH.
* Develop secure, scalable pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate diverse data sources (operational,
personnel, parts, aircraft, and program data).
* Establish best practices for performance tuning, storage optimization, and long-term scalability.
* Implement security, compliance, and identity access controls aligned with DoD, DFARS, and CMMC
requirements.
* Deliver full environment buildouts from architecture design through production deployment.
Operations and Governance
* Establish standards for data quality, validation, and governance across all ingestion pipelines.
* Develop monitoring and alerting frameworks to ensure data integrity and reliability.
* Partner with BI Analysts to ensure dashboards and reporting tools integrate seamlessly with the
centralized data platform
Mentorship and Team Development
* Mentor and train Junior Data Engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
* Define coding standards, peer review practices, and documentation requirements.
* Foster a collaborative, knowledge-sharing culture within the data engineering team.

Collaboration and Integration
* Work closely with Project Managers and Business Analysts to align technical solutions with business
needs.
* Partner with BI Leads and Analysts to ensure reporting and compliance tools are powered by clean,
reliable data.

Qualifications and Experience:
Education and Certifications
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical
discipline.
* Equivalent education or relevant experience may be considered.
* Master's degree preferred.
* Microsoft Azure certifications strongly desirable (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions
Architect Expert, Security Engineer).
Experience
* 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, including at least 3 years in Azure cloud environments
(preferably Azure GCCH or equivalent regulated environments).
* Proven track record designing and deploying data platforms end-to-end (architecture through production).
* Hands-on expertise with:
o Azure Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Databricks, Event Hubs, Data Lake Storage (Gen2).
o Database technologies (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB).
o Programming languages (Python, PySpark, SQL).
* Strong experience in data security, access management, and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST, DoD,
CMMC).
* Prior experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.
Skills and Competencies
* Strong architectural design and problem-solving skills with the ability to build scalable, secure systems.
* Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and API integrations.
* Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Proactive leadership style with a focus on developing talent and building sustainable data capabilities.
Working Conditions:
* Reports to IT Operations Director, based at M1's Denton, TX office.
* Hybrid work environment available, subject to business needs.
* Primarily office-based; occasional travel or after-hours work may be required.
* U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible for security clearance as role supports compliance-regulated
environments.
