We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Sales Manager on our Publishing team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office.

This position maintains and grows JAMA Network site licenses sales revenue for the US and Canada academic markets, while contributing to the growth of other JAMA Network products such as perpetual access licenses (Backfiles), Open Access Agreements, or AI features. This role collaborates closely with institutions and internal teams to expand relationships, drive renewals and upsells, and support long-term market growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales Growth and Account Management

  • Contribute to maintaining and increasing paid institutional subscription revenue through direct sales to new prospects, renewals, and upselling existing business for academic institutions within the US and Canada, community colleges up to medical schools.
  • Develop and implement annual sales plans, including initiatives, tactical actions, and revenue forecasts for all assigned products.
  • Work with in-house tools and outside resources to create and maintain gap information on all potential sales. Collaborate with the marketing department to develop visibility, sales, and usage of AMA journal products in assigned territory.

End-to-End Cycle Management

  • Manage the entire sales cycle: prepare offers, negotiate pricing, coordinate with Legal and Finance (via the Contract Licensing Team), monitor usage, ensure timely renewals, follow up on payments and solve customer account issues.
  • Deliver on both revenue goals and customer satisfaction targets.

Market Development & Relationship Building

  • Represent JAMA Network at libraries, trade shows and industry events to increase visibility, generate leads, and build institutional relationships.
  • Conduct site visits to existing and prospective customers, gather market intelligence and strengthen long-term partnerships.
  • Stay current with developments in scholarly publishing and emerging technologies, and adapt sales methods to align with industry trends, evolving customer needs, and new digital tools.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred or equivalent work experience and
    high school diploma or equivalent education required.
  2. 5+ Years of Sales experience required, preferably in publishing or licensing
  3. Previous publishing experience and/or academic institutions
    relationship building preferred.
  4. Polished interpersonal skills, especially the ability to develop
    relationships both internally and externally
  5. Ability to work with all levels of staff, management and the customer
    base.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of intellectual property rights,
    particularly as they apply to content licensing.
  7. Must be self-motivated and able to effectively manage time to achieve
    both individual and departmental goals.
  8. Results oriented, including demonstrated ability to reach sales goals
    and handle pressure. Skilled at performing in a team environment while
    striving to maximize individual goals.
  9. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail needed, including
    market research, budgeting, forecasting and quantitative/qualitative campaign
    analysis.
  10. Negotiation skills required.
  11. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time under constant deadline pressure.
  12. Proficiency in sales CRM tools and reporting.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $85,680 -$113,526. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
