North Wind Solutions is a Government contracting small business with operations at military and civilian installations across the United States. The company's focus is facilities operation and maintenance, waste management and radiological services, security control and force protection, and environmental services.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The North Wind Solutions Enterprise Application Services organization develops and maintains custom and commercial-off-the-shelf software applications at the Hanford Site in Richland, WA. This is one of the largest environmental cleanup projects in the world, focused on river protection, habitat restoration, and environmental remediation. The enterprise is in the midst of a major modernization effort to improve data and data availability. In this phase of the transformation, the organization must maintain current data and reporting processes while implementing new warehouse and reporting processes alongside them.
In this context, the Software Engineer will be working with the customers to understand their data and migrate their data into the Enterprise Data Management environment. This will include managing data quality and data security.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Software Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with Data Stewards to identify, define, and document data assets, build scalable data pipelines, and migrate data into the Enterprise Data Management (EDM) environment. This role requires strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with the Information Management team and stakeholders, as well as excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Sound judgment and discretion are essential. As part of the broader modernization initiative, the Software Engineer will also partner with Solution Architects to help design and implement processes for the evolving EDM environment. Typical Duties and Responsibilities May Include:
- Analyze and verify existing data sources for accuracy and relevance
- Create detailed, well-structured data models and relationship diagrams
- Conduct business process analysis using flowcharts, data flow diagrams, and system integration diagrams
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and end-users to gather and document data requirements
- Support the implementation of IT solutions aligned with business needs
- Partner with quality assurance teams to develop test cases, scenarios, and test plans based on documented requirements
- Prepare and maintain required documentation, including weekly status reports
- Perform all work safely and in compliance with environmental obligations using the core functions and core elements of the Integrated Safety Management System/Environmental Management System (ISMS/EMS)
- Engage with software engineers, project managers, customers, and quality assurance professionals across all levels
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science, Mathematics, Management Information Systems, Business or similar) and 5 or more years of IT experience, or an equivalent combination of IT education, training and experience.

Special Requirements:
- Must pass pre-employment background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with legacy data and reporting environments such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Crystal Reports, SSIS
- Experience with medallion architecture.
- Experience with cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure
- Experience with Microsoft cloud data tools such as Synapse, Purview, Notebooks
- Familiarity working in a Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) or similar regulatory environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is primarily sedentary in nature. The work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The work may involve exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Works mainly in a typical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
