How can you make an impact?

We have an opening for an experienced, innovative, strategic Academic Designer (Editorial), 6-12 Social Studies (Project Status Worker). The position reports to the Senior Director of the 6-12 Social Studies Academic Design Core Team. The Academic Design Core Team focuses on the research, planning and development of new instructional materials for basal 6-12 Social Studies programs.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This is a Project Status Worker (PSW) role with an end date of April 2nd, 2027.

What you will be doing:

  • Concepting, planning and developing basal instructional materials, both digital and print, for Social Studies courses for grades 6-12, including but not limited to textbooks, interactive activities, videos, worksheets, assessments, and teacher lesson plans.
  • Researching curriculum requirements, state standards, and program content; developing program scope and sequence, working with writers and reviewers to prepare manuscript, ensuring accuracy, readability, and grade-appropriateness in accordance with project specifications.
  • Coordinating and overseeing the work of outside freelancers or suppliers.
  • Editing, tracking, and reviewing manuscript, composed pages and digital products throughout development cycle.
  • Correlating educational materials to social studies curriculum standards and frameworks.
  • Working in content management systems to assemble and produce educational content.
  • Communicating with fellow team members and cross-functional teams about project progress and developing solutions to address issues.
  • Working as a team player to meet all milestone dates and deliverable requirements.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or higher, preferably with content knowledge in a major social studies field: US History, World History, World Geography, Economics, Ethnic Studies, or Political Science (Government/Civics).
  • A minimum of 24 months of editorial or educational publishing experience; experience writing and editing instructional materials for use in secondary social studies classrooms or classroom teaching experience, preferably in 6-12 social studies courses.
  • Excellent communication skills which include a thorough command of the English language, spelling, writing, and grammar.
  • Must be organized, detail- and deadline-oriented and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat; experience writing/editing in Adobe InCopy/ InDesign.
  • Experience working with digital curriculum development, digital authoring tools, and content management systems.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced rapidly changing work environment.

The pay range for this position is between $54,600 - $65,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
