About the role We're seeking a Supervisor of Intake & Claims. This position is responsible for supervising the claims adjudication of individual and group claims which includes claims submitted under life, long term disability, short term disability and other ancillary product lines. Oversee the technical review/risk management of claims, reinsurance reporting, and internal financial/reserve reporting. Accountable for claims set up including processes, payment procedures and systems. Participate in the coordination of activities between three claims units to effectively integrate the risk management of all product lines.

What you will do



  • Oversee technical claim reviews of all product lines to accept or reject claims liability in accordance with a Fair Claims Practices state statutes and regulations.
  • Oversee the approval and rejection of life and disability claims liability through the utilization of high-level risk management techniques.
  • Accountable for intake process, claims procedures and systems issue resolution results. Includes assisting in the development and maintenance of processes, procedures and systems.
  • Responsible for hiring, performance management, talent management, training, change management, ensure staff meet/exceed objectives including monitoring metrics/results and take corrective action where needed, and maintain knowledge of company, departmental and HR policies, programs and systems.
  • Interpret master contracts under life, short term disability, long term disability, ancillary products and individual/group policies.
  • Oversee FICA/Tax claims reporting to ensure compliance with the proper taxing authorities.
  • Performs claims audits to monitor the quality and production of claims adjudication.
  • Interface with reinsurers to assure all claims are handled under reinsurance treaty guidelines.
  • Assist in the development of operating procedures/service level standards to ensure efficiency and quality throughout the claims process.
  • Maintain claims records and provides appropriate statistical reports for management and policyholders.
  • Interface with the Legal Department to discuss legal issues regarding the adjudication of pending claims and legal/compliance concerns.
  • Oversee the inquisition of the most complex disability and life claims including pre-existing investigations under long/short term disability or critical illness policies and contestable investigations under life and voluntary long term disability contracts.
  • Participate as a committee member in relation to new and ongoing system implementations.
  • Interface with rehab vendors, physicians or consultants, and social security specialists in the risk management of claims.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, customers, etc. to provide outstanding customer service consistently.
  • Proactively identifies inconsistencies or lag in claim information and utilizes effective approaches and resources to obtain clarification or verification.
  • Comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, Compliance Program policies and other applicable corporate and departmental policies.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality of company business.
  • Maintain communication with management regarding development within areas of assigned responsibilities and perform special projects as required or requested.

Compensation

Salary Range: $58,300 - $97,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are:



  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years' life claims or short term/long term disability claims adjudication experience OR 9 years' life claims or short term/long term disability claims adjudication experience
  • 2 years supervisory or lead experience (training, workflow, projects)
  • Knowledge of corporate systems including automated billing, claims, group policy administration and financial systems
  • PC proficiency to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Clear and concise interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical and math skills
  • Experience independently determining liability decisions on the basis of facts and objective medical data


Preferred Job Qualifications:



  • FLMI, ICA, and/or HIA insurance designations
  • Supervisory experience in a claims' environment
