THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is currently seeking a Social Worker 2, a role that aligns perfectly with your expertise. This important position plays a key role in supporting rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives aimed at reducing recidivism while enhancing the mental health and well-being of inmates. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will utilize effective communication with various DOC and community personnel to ensure the delivery of tailored services. A key aspect of this role is the direct interaction with inmates, which provides you with the rewarding opportunity to witness their engagement in the process of change. In this capacity, you will assess the specific needs of your caseload, determining the appropriate services, programs, and treatments required for each inmate. Additionally, you will facilitate both group and individual counseling sessions focused on reentry and discharge planning. Your responsibilities also include preparing detailed written reports on inmates' progress and adjustments during their time in the institution, along with providing staff recommendations to courts and parole authorities. Furthermore, you will manage complex cases involving inmates who may be receiving mental health services, making independent decisions to advise and plan for their needs while navigating the interplay of various systems that impact their rehabilitation and success.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (commonwealth titles) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment); or
  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and a bachelor's degree in social work or social welfare; or
  • Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor's degree in social work or social welfare; or
  • A master's degree in social work or social welfare.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • All employees in the Department of Corrections must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within two months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful Completion of Basic Training in Elizabethtown, PA.
