Job Overview The Senior User Experience Designer shapes the end-to-end customer and colleague experiences across the enterprise applications for our Macys and Bloomingdales brands and retail stores, bringing Macy's strategic vision to life through impactful and connected digital and physical (phygital) designs. With at least 5 years of experience in digital and service design, this role requires a strong track record of delivering elegant, scalable, and high-quality designs in fast-paced, cross-functional environments. This designer applies systems thinking to unify fragmented touchpoints into cohesive journeys, leverages service design to align frontstage and backstage operations and applies information architecture to simplify complex ecosystems. They balance business objectives with user needs, conduct field discovery in stores to ground designs in real-world conditions, and design for phygital environments where digital and physical experiences converge. In addition to creating best-in-class experiences, the Senior UX Designer also mentor's teammates and partners closely with product, technology, research, and business leaders to ensure alignment with Macy's strategic goals. What You Will Do Design Connected Journeys: Shape domain experiences that align with business goals and user needs, applying systems thinking to ensure end-to-end consistency across digital, in-store, and colleague-facing tools. Practice Service Design: Map and orchestrate customer and colleague journeys across frontstage (UI, customer touchpoints) and backstage (processes, tools, and operations) to deliver seamless outcomes. Conduct Discovery & Field Research: Partner with researchers and stakeholders to conduct in-store discovery, contextual inquiries, and phygital journey mapping that inform design decisions with real-world insights. Architect Information: Apply information architecture principles to organize complex enterprise platforms, workflows, and content into intuitive structures that enhance usability and reduce friction. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Leads, Managers, Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, and Store Operators to define, conceptualize, and design products and services that drive measurable impact. Design at Multiple Altitudes: Move fluidly from big-picture vision (conceptual models, journey frameworks, service blueprints) to detailed execution (wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity comps). Ensure Enterprise Consistency: Design consistently across platforms, including e-commerce, enterprise applications, store operations systems, and point-of-sale, creating a cohesive omni-channel user experience. Mentor & Elevate: Coach and mentor UX designers, modeling best practices in design craft, systems thinking, and stakeholder engagement. Validate with Data & Research: Use both qualitative and quantitative research, as well as key performance indicators (KPIs), to test, iterate, and validate design decisions. Champion Inclusivity & Connection: Foster an environment of respect, inclusion, and authentic collaboration with colleagues, customers, and communities. Skills You Will Need 5+ years of experience in digital design, UX, or service design roles. Strong portfolio showcasing experience in systems thinking, service design, information architecture, and end-to-end journey design. Experience conducting field discovery in stores, service environments, or similar contexts to ground solutions in real-world behavior. Expertise in designing phygital experiences that connect digital interfaces with physical environments. Proficiency in interaction design, user flows, wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity UI design. Skilled in using qualitative and quantitative research methods to inform design decisions. Strong communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams. Ability to balance speed-to-market with long-term vision and scalability.
