About the Opportunity:

The Quality Engineer assures that the assigned products meet all the requirements of the customer purchase orders, drawing and specifications regarding the manufacturing of the assigned hardware. Develop inspection standards, support and guide inspection, manufacturing and Engineering personnel. Perform quality audits, monitor processes, ensure root cause and effective corrective action is implemented.

Location: Manchester, CT

This position is 100% onsite.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the review of purchase orders, customer specifications and drawings
  • Work closely with the engineers to develop the quality plans within our manufacturing work instructions, tool gage concepts review and approval and the First Article Inspection plans
  • Work closely with the shop and engineering regarding the disposition of non-conforming material, Source Inspection and SPC analysis where required
  • Provide the flow of the requirements to our suppliers and technical support to the shop as required
  • Develop, define and initiate standards and methods of inspection
  • Provide guidance to inspection, operators and Engineering to assure compliance to specifications, Customer requirements and Regulatory agencies
  • Integrate with Engineering to ensure flow down of key characteristics, and to develop effective quality control plans
  • Review travelers for material, special processing requirements and manufacturability
  • Drive assigned improvement projects
  • Flow down Customer requirements to Purchasing
  • Perform Internal Audits
  • Perform the root cause and corrective action system training
  • Design and develop inspection fixtures, tools and gages
  • Liaison between Customer and Supplier on quality issues
  • Assist in review and approval of work instructions
  • Provide Quality Assurance support of Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Initiate and/or approve Quality Plans
  • Provide training
  • Support and implement Supplier nonconformance investigations
  • Provide recommendations for improvement
  • Provide Quality Clinic support
  • Establish the sampling plans and over-inspection requirements to fulfill Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
  • Develop quality plans for quality acceptance of parts
  • Provide support to Value Stream Mapping process

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 8 years' of experience as a Quality Engineering Technician or Quality Engineer

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field
  • 5 years' experience with Sheet Metal fabrications including knowledge of forming, welding, non-destructive testing, and assembly processes
  • AS13001 certification
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing, SPC (Statistical Process Control), manufacturing techniques, AS9102/eCAV, CID, SPS & Fix Process, Drawings Interpretation and Geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T), various knowledge of Sheet Metal Fabrications operations, Quality Assurance systems, calibration and gauging, AS9100 Quality Systems requirements
  • Understanding of customer Quality systems including Raytheon, GE, Rolls Royce and Safran
  • Solid knowledge of Root cause and corrective action

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires mobility in a manufacturing plant environment while using Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
