Join the University Housing team as a Security Systems Specialist! We are seeking energetic and skilled candidates to provide leadership and support in maintaining, repairing and installing new or existing key structures and related work. This position takes the lead with locksmith service/repair requests.

Work includes responsibility of hard key systems and distribution, electronic building access database management as well as minor mechanical work. This position is essential to the safety and security of our spaces that serve University Housing staff and residents.

Work Schedule:


  • The primary schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm, to be set upon hire. This position will also be in a rotating on-call schedule for after hours and weekend coverage.
  • Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Distributes security devices, tracks inventory, and updates associated records
  • Identifies and recommends alternative technology solutions to stakeholders to meet user needs
  • Responds to service requests through various communication mediums
  • Manages electronic access data for residents, employees and outside vendors

  • Performs the functions of a locksmith related to mechanical locks, pinning cores, cutting keys and issuing hard keys as necessary

  • Designs, installs, troubleshoots, and services complex electronic control systems and locks to meet customer specifications
  • Analyzes and interprets complex hardware, door schedules and lock patterns, and updates information based on user requests and needs

University Housing Facilities is a part of the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and focuses on building services, mechanical maintenance, and long-term infrastructure projects and planning. As a student service organization, University Housing Facilities provides quality living/learning environments to approximately 8,000 undergraduate student residents during the academic year and 18,000 guests in the summer months. Additionally, they serve the University Apartments community, which is approximately 3,000 residents in 1,240 apartments on 83 acres. The University Apartments Community also includes a large Community Center and a University Housing-operated, licensed early childhood education program.

University Residence Halls consists of 30 buildings containing approximately 2 million square feet and 37 acres of surrounding grounds. In addition to residential living spaces the residence hall infrastructure supports many functions and programs requiring many types of spaces such as classrooms, office space, dining and culinary space including commercial kitchens and marketplace areas, mechanical support spaces and large meeting rooms.

Compensation:

The starting annual salary is $55,000 or higher based on qualifications with a competitive retirement and benefits package, including vacation, holidays, and paid time off. Required Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience with maintenance, repair and service of keys, cores, locking mechanisms for building access
  • Customer service experience in residential or commercial setting, including work with a diverse clientele
  • Driver's License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience with electronic building access systems
  • Networking and/or database management experience

Education:

H.S. Diploma Preferred Minimum
