Description
Core Responsibilities:
- Ensure current products have accurate work instructions, CNC programs, and standard processes that yield consistent, high-quality, defect-free parts.
- Oversee special process development and conformance (turning, milling, shot peen, special processes, etc.), ensuring compliance with customer, organizational, and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate the development of tooling, fixturing, and CNC programs to support manufacturing.
- Maintain accountability for customer-owned property (e.g., tooling) and ensure inventory control.
- Drive cost-out, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives through Lean Manufacturing best practices.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Lead all engineering activities related to NPI/NPD, ensuring milestones, budgets, and customer expectations are met.
- Facilitate APQP/PPAP processes for all new product introductions.
- Ensure adherence to stage-gate NPI checklist standard work, including configuration and change management processes.
- Champion advanced machine simulation, complementing best practices for CNC programming of multi-axis turning and milling machinery.
- Develop and validate new manufacturing processes, tooling, and documentation for new products.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with quality, operations, and supply chain to ensure smooth customer approvals and on-time launches.
Leadership & Strategy
- Manage, mentor, and coach the engineering staff to build a high-performing team focused on excellence, accountability, and innovation.
- Engage with the recruiting of graduate engineers from local universities.
- Champion the business's innovation strategy, including capital acquisitions and the introduction of new technologies.
- Maintain a capable indirect load capacity model for the business.
- Provide technical support to customers on engineering issues related to quality and growth.
- Partner with business development and finance to provide accurate cost estimates and assess manufacturing feasibility for new opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
- 7-10 years of aerospace manufacturing engineering experience (machining of complex rotating/static components preferred).
- Strong background in process engineering, CNC programming, GD&T, and special process development.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience with proven leadership effectiveness and change management ability.
- Experience with AS9100, NADCAP, APQP/PPAP, and aerospace quality requirements.
- Project management expertise: PMP certification strongly preferred.
- Strong business acumen with knowledge of cost modeling, financial trade-offs, and ERP systems (Syteline experience a plus).
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and engineering tools (AutoCAD, Microsoft Project).
